I know, I know, another gold buffalo thread (First Strike Observation)

As a collector of modern crap, who recently rode in to this forum on a buffalo, allow me to introduce myself. In any case I found it interesting (as I am selling a buff on ebay) that a rough 1k premium is now being placed on the PR70DCAM FIRST STRIKES. Check out the sales history for the last two weeks of first strike versus the regualr PR70. At first it appeared about a 600 gap which seems to be widening by the day. In any case, I really enjoy reading all of your posts. Thanks for sharing.

ONETHREE - Welcome to the boards.

Without arguing the merits, pro or con, best I can tell, the differential between FS & non-FS PR70DC Buffalo coins is closer to $1,250-$1,500 now than $600 or $1,000.

On PR69DCAM Buffalo coins, it appears there may also be a differential now of about $100 or more.

    wondercoin:

What is the postmark date on the buffalo coins that will allow it to qualify for a "first strike?"

I have a single buffalo gold coin that shows August 14, 2006 as the postmark date received. Is that within the first strike time period?

I had others that were up to a few weeks earlier.

If one submits such a coin many years later to PCGS in an unopened registered mail package to PCGS will that still qualify as a PCGS "First Strike (tm)?"

Yes. That's why even though PCGS didn't begin the first strike designation until 2005 you can find First Strike silver eagles for many earlier years as far back as 1986. They still had the unopened monter boxes with January packing dates and they sent them in in 2005.
