Is there a formula for determining prices for proof sets without the orig packaging?

I have about 10 proof sets in capitol holders/plastic holders I would like to sell

How does one figure an asking price for these? Any ideas?

It depends on the date. Most sets are worth about the same as individual parts as
they are intact so there's no real discount on these. (finding a buyer might be prob-
lematical so you may have to sell at a ten or twenty percent discount). The problem
comes on those with a large set premium. You'll be lucky to get 50% on some of them.

Add up the total value of the parts in greysheet. If it's less than
about 2/3 of the set price than expect a major discount. Figure
50% across the board otherwise unless you have a quantity or
    a buyer.

  • If the coins are ok, not spotted or horribly hairlined on most common sets I typicaly pay bid less 25% on proof sets missing original box, paper, case etc.. Better sets will be dependent on the coins themselves.

  • For average sets, I would say the replies so far are on target. A few times I have paid
bid or even a bit more for PQ mid-50's sets in Capitol Plastics holders with nice toning.

This is a very fair, even a strong, offer but if you have a large quantity of a single
date it's possible to even get 100%. They'd have to be the right date and you'd
    need to find the buyer.
