Can you bid on your own stuff?

The weirdest thing just happen. I was placing a low bid (opening bid) on a coin on E-bay and someone came back and immediately trumped my bid. I looked at the bid history and it was the seller! Can the seller bid on his own stuff? Is this legal? Doesnt this defeat the no reserve incentive?

    Can you? Yes.
    Should you? No.
  • I'm pretty sure you can't bid on your own items... At least not morally.

The person bidding on his own stuff probably should sign up on this forum and learn better. Yes, learn how to be more creative to get their stuff bid up.imageimageimage

In my eyes, I think it's wrong to do so.

OOOOOPS I'll admit when I am wrong. I screwed up. The bidder's name and the seller's name are different but extremely simillar. Sorry for the confusion.

That doesn't mean that he isn't bidding on his own coin. May be an alt-ID. What you describe is called shill bidding and its against eBay rules and can get you kicked off eBay.

How do you know it was the seller bidding on his own auction? From what I am aware of, a seller can not use his ID to bid on the same coin the ID has listed.

Post a link to the auction.

Shill bidding shows false interest in an item and should be considered fraudulent. If a person wants to protect the price of an item they should use a reserve or higher starting price.
