opinions please....

I'm not nor probably ever will be a, "modern" collector. I normally do the mint thing and I do like the TX state Qtr.
I'm beginning to wonder if I may be missing something.
My son, 15, shows little interest in what I'll call the classics, gives them barely a glance. Show him a state qtr. or any modern coin and he steals my loupe.
I've also noticed that most of the yn's on the board have a strong interest in modern coins.
Do they know something I'm to ignorant to understand, or are they just doing it their way?
Rather I like it or not they are the future. tia. jws

It's reasonable for a teen on a limited budget to take an interest in moderns, especially those that offer a chance at a cherrypick from circulation.
Just as I searched pocket change for a 1955DDO Lincoln in the early 1960s, today's youngsters examine State Quarters for an "Extra Leaf", "Extra Tree" or even an undiscovered variety.
It's a normal progression. He may take an interest in the classics at a future date. In the meantime, be glad he takes an interest at all. Mine could care less.

As they grow they will probably realize what American coinage is all about.
Notice how I didn't say anything about moving away from Modern crap as they gain more wisdom in numismatics...

There are many on the board who support our ridiculious hobby. To numerous to mention. Everyone knows who they are.
Even alone you can make a difference, no doubt, there is strength in #'s.
