The "F" (Magdeburg) mint Prussian Thalers are very tough to find in nice condition.

This one is typical of the type. - Preussen

    Musky- I like it.

Some of the late-1700s Bavarian thalers are pretty inexpensive, if I recall correctly. And of course there are 19th century thalers, some of which ain't so costly. But by the 19th century the diameters on many of them began to shrink. Nineteenth century thalers, while nice, and often featuring some lovely designs, are not as exciting to me as the 16th, 17th, and 18th century ones.

Yes, they are Prussian. I was merely suggesting that this particular piece might not be the only thaler he could afford, and offered the Bavarian ones as an example.

Musky1011 - these talers are addictive! It would be fascinating to see the path one of these followed over the years.
