How about a grade on this 1916 Buffalo nickel?

I got it a while back and and am contemplating sending it in. I've scoured the Heritage auction histories for these, and I haven't seen one as fully struck, reverse especially. Pretty darned nice in hand, too.

That 1916 looks like a Type 1 - its so well struck, I could look at it all day too. My guess is MS 66.

Certainly Type 1s do. The textured fields are the ticket.

Rims look like a proof, but the central details on the reverse confirm a business strike. It should grade 66, but PCGS will probably give it a 5.

That coin looks as if was struck from left-over proof dies. I believe there was some business strikes that used a proof reverse die.

I would guess 66 .

Send it in! Send it in! It is very well struck- the only place that shows any sign of slight weakness is the central reverse like Shamika said. I think it has a chance at 66 if it is as clean as the photos suggest.

That is a really terrific strike!
May come back a 65 from PCGS... though I'd disagree with them all day if that looks as good in the hand as it does in the photo's.

Look under the last digit in the date. You can just make out the F.

I think it's a proof specimen.
that 66 is probably right, could be a 67.3 but for sure it's a PF66.7... a very high end coin for sure. My advice:

A few tiny ticks and a carbon spot would keep this from going 67 IMO.
But, who knows! I still say 66.
You have got to tell me where you find these awesome raw buffs!
