What's going on with this 1900 O Morgan?

I picked up this circ Morgan from a dealer's box of $16 coins on Saturday. I looked at the mint mark, said to myself 'some intersting strike doubling. No big deal." Then, I looked at the date and there is similar strike doubling. But how, in the mint process, can we have strike doubling from south to north (obverse) and north to south (reverse)? I spent the sixteen dollars. Here are the pictures.
In addition to the strike doubling if that is what is here, there are interesting dots of material below the mint mark and around the bow. Also, the the left of the 9 in the date there are the remains of something. Much of the reverse rim motto is doubled on the lower half of the coin. The numerals of the date are very, very deep meaning that they are raised very high from the field which does not show in the picture. Any thoughts?
