4/20 of my Ebay Listing Pet Peeves in 1 Convenient Place!

Example
For the lazy:
Title: 730 / 787 EX/Mint 1972 Topps Baseball set stars high #s
Description: Hello. This auction is 730 different 1972 Topps Baseball cards in Ex/Mint condition. Some better and few less. I know how to grade cards. Check my feedback. Included is Nolan Ryan as well as more than 75 different high numbers and many more stars.
Starting Bid: $597
BIN: $627

Peeves:
Lessee... Where do I start.
1. Uhm, well WTF would I be buying?
Is this set missing 57 low number commons are all stars BUT Ryan - making it worth either $700 OR $300.

2. No scans. What? The guy couldn't get off his fat butt to scan some? After all, some of his other listings have scans. I suppose I should be happy with "I know how to grade cards." Yeah, well I know how to avoid crappy auctions too.

3. High starting bid. Yep... That'll encourage the bids to fly.

4. Small (10%) between starting bid and BIN. Why not 1 or the other? I guess some people just love paying high listing fees.

Oh well. 5/11 of me really doesn't care.

Regarding #4, the last time I listed a fixed price item that didn't sell, I was unable to relist it as an auction. Maybe that's why people have listings with similar start/bin prices?

I agree it is a lousy listing not deserving of any bids...................................but his math tell us that there are 75 high numbers included.............The high number series is 130 cards

Doing the math shows us that of the 57 missing cards all but 2 are in the high series.

The high series only actually contains 6 HOFer cards ( out of 51)

    I STILL AIN"T BIDDING..........image

...( and I do not trust his math)

It is a bad auction, IMO.

    But the notion of:

"High starting bid. Yep... That'll encourage the bids to fly,"
    has become outdated.

eBay has only a small fraction of the active auction shoppers
that it once had. Sellers who list their cards at a price below
what they are willing to accept as the final bid, are setting
themselves up to take a substantial loss. High-end and rare
cards are still seeing some/many competitive bids, but almost
    nothing else is.

Auctions do not appear to be in the futures of many eBay
sellers. Auctions do not work like they did back in the day.

The card market is not exactly in free-fall, but it is not doing well.
There are too many cards and card dealers, and relatively few buyers.
Now is a great time for bargain hunters, but a bad time for sellers.

I've been watching '72s all Summer and they seem to move fine - and I'm paying more for cards this Summer than I did last.
Are you sure you're not talking about the newer stuff?
