    keep talkin to urself
  • Hi Ted. How is it going?
  • I would have rather won the 2004 ALCS but the 5 game sweep in Fenway sure does take some of that sting away.

Last August the Red Sox were rumored to be pursuing Crisp if they didn't sign Damon. Supposedly Damon got wind of it. Just like the Yankees made a major snafu by letting Andy Pettitte go, the Red Sox also did so with Damon. Johnny is an Idiot no more, and now that he is on the Yankees he qualifies to be a Rhodes Scholar. image It looks like it was a big blunder by the Red Sox letting Damon go. Coco Crisp was 2 for 18 or something like that in this series.

All year I have been hearing from Red Sox and Mets fans, as well as Yankee haters, how the Yankees pitching stinks, but I think the Yanks have a very good bullpen and their starters are coming around. Lidle pitched great today. Ron Villone has been lights out, Proctor has been excellent, and Farnsworth has been pretty good. Its the Red Sox whose terrible relief pitching soft under belly (except Papelbon) was exposed in this series. Actually a precursor to this is when the Red Sox lost 5 in a row to Tampa Bay and KC a few weeks ago.

I can’t say enough about the Baby Bombers.

Torre managed this series to perfection and he finally did what I was hoping for years….walk Ramirez and Papi when there are men on base to prevent them hitting those damaging multi-run producing Home Runs. If it wasn’t for Jim Leland who is doing a terrific job with the Tigers I would say Torre deserves the AL Manager of the Year because of how he has managed with all of the injuries.

The AL is very tough this year with the Tigers, White Sox, and Twins doing well. The Yankees did very well against the Tigers a few months ago when they almost swept them. They won 3 out of 4.

I will say this...there are still about 40 games left and the Yankees still have 4 games left with Boston in September so I hope the Yankees don't get too c ocky but I don't think Torre or Jeter will let them.

So winning a series in the middle of the season takes the sting away from the greatest postseason collapse in the long history of baseball? Suuure it does spammy.

Absolutley "some" of that sting is reduced with this 5 game sweep that has essentially finished the Red SOx. Greatest collapse all time ...... yup. But ya know what Ax? We have 1996, 1998, 2000, 2001 to fall back on. Many many good times. Some of us (me)have 1977 and 1978 to think about too. I will never forget watching Reggie Jackson hit those three homers against the Dodgers as 9 year old kid.

The Yankees are in that spot soooooo often that what happened in 04 was bound to happen eventually and it did. Fine, we have moved on image

Sure, Spammy's quote makes perfect sense to me.

5 regular season games in August = the absolute worst post-season collapse in baseball's 100+ year history.

    Sounds like we are even.

Not really no, but its good to see you're trying to change the subject.

Greatest collapse in baseball's postseason history is somehow altered by an August series sweep? If the tables were turned, and the red sox had swept the yanks, all we'd be hearing was how meaningless this series was, how there are 40 more games, blah blah blah.

I never said anything was taking the place of the collapse. That was that, this was this. The collapse was in the postseason, it obviously means more.

I was just asking if you had anything else to talk about since the Mariners who you claimed would be there at the end have now plummeted to the bottom of the worst division in baseball after losing 11 straight.

And, as already pointed out in this thread, the Yankees have more more than enough titles to take away some of the sting of that collapse. Had they never won before maybe the hurt would be more severe, but life went on. Thats what happens when your team has been a winner. You enjoy victory, and move on after defeat.

  • 26 World Series titles is a big difference from 1 in 85+ years. Yes, the collapse was agonizing to watch but you know what? That was then. The Sox had the Yankees number and it was clear when Aaron Boone had to save the Yankees the postseason earlier. But you know what? Chit happens. I'm more than content with remembering the Yankee run of the mid 90's into 00. Will I stay content with that, Nope. I'll always want them to win. Ya'll can bring it up like you always do, truth is I can bring up the 85 years of dowsing the Sox took. The fact that this talk of "who's the best" isn't even worthy of the talk. Keep looking at the Sox past, us Yankee fans are more than happy with ours.

So Jerry makes an appearance! Hi Jerry image

All Yankee fans have moved on from that collapse. The only hanger ons are of course die hard Yankee haters and dis-gruntled Sox fans. But that is fine. I would take that collapse again if it means more titles image

I don't blame the Sox fan for resorting to 2004. Those WERE good times for them. I probably would do the same.
