Johan Santana Best Mainstream Rookie Card?

What is it? By mainstream, I mean no auto, jersey, refractor, or other specialty cards. Just want to know what his most popular card is in PSA 10.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

This one's easy. His best RC would be 2000 Finest. The regular cards are numbered to /3000. Even though it's numbered, this is considered his RC. Just to add, his refractor is /1000 and his gold refractor is /100. Hope that helps.

How does it compare to say - the Bowman's Best? I ask because I have one.

Good point FrankHardy. I believe the Finest has a slight edge over the BB in price, not much, though. The BB is actually numbered to /2999. One card rarer!

I asked this question a month ago and the response I got was:
"Santana would be either 2000 Bowman's Best or Finest. He has a Fleer Mystique card numbered to 2000, while the others are #/3000 and #/2999, respectively, but for some reason it sells for less. They all have rare parallels, too. "

Both cards have the same book value.

What do the Santana cards mentioned in this thread generally sell for in PSA 10?

Beckett puts out a rookie roledex every year that answers these questions. Here we go:

    Bow Best /2999 60.00
    Finest /3000 60.00
    Fleer update 10.00
    Mystique /2000 30.00
    Invincible 15.00
    Omega /999 40.00
    Paramount Update 15.00

As you can see by the list limited doesn't always mean highest priced. Fleer and pacific really don't hold value. The Finest and BB will
do the best, even though neither are really popular sets. The Gold Finest is probably the most sought after card, it was a die cut
card all the way around like teeth....very hard to grade. Both Finest and BB are thicker cards, so condition isn't so much of a factor, but
there are still issues with scratches.

If you want my opinion, you can't go wrong with the Finest RC.

His finest is a great looking card, especially the refractor. The bowmans best is very prone to chipping front and back so look for that. His fleer tradition was available only from the sets but is VERY plentiful. You can pick up 10 card lots for <$30 sometimes. I live in MN and we get $8-10 ea for them all day long. The paramount is way undervalued, it was only available in set form and IIRC only available from JC Penny. The perceived population is quite a bit smaller than /999. If you can ever find one, pick it up. The market will eventually catch up to that card.

Edited to say that in PSA 10 form the bowmans best should be much harder to find vs the finest.

This is a tough call. It's down to Finest and Bowman's Best regular issues. I could care less about refractors, inserts, jersey cards, autograph cards, game used underwear cards, etc. For what it's worth, SMR values the BB $30 higher than Finest ($120 to $90). And the BB is a tougher find in a 10 (17/53 compared to 27/54 for Finest). Man I miss the old days when a player had ONE rookie card.

Looks like you're gonna be way off on this one Kevin. The Finest 10 is already over $60 with a few days left. Where did you come up with that figure?
