I personally am a Yankees fan, so kill me for saying this, but don't you think all of this attention being paid to the NYY-BOS series is a bit overkill? I mean ESPN is pumping this like it's two of the best teams in the history of baseball. NYY is very good this year, but nothing like the mid to late '90s and BOS is struggling big time right now. I guess I should just get out of the way of the ESPN hype train and enjoy it!!!

In the modern TV world, there is no such thing as overhhyping a series that involves arguably the best rivalry in all of sports. Honestly, if ESPN didn't pump it up, people would lose their jobs. Hey, we even have four games of the series on Rogers Sportsnet here in Canada.
For a network that has to show poker and commercials for poker ever 3 minutes they sure as hell better hype up a big time series between the two biggest rivals in sports.

<< <i>What else are people going to watch this weekend? Meaningless NFL preseason? Almost as meaningless golf or Nascar? For sports fans, this is a major rivalry, no matter where you live in the country. Odds are, you like or dislike one of these two teams. >>
I could not agree more.
KC/SEA/CALI people,
How do you feel about being force-fed Yanks-Red Sox 24/7???
<< <i>My point is, is that it's reaching a level like the Celtics-Lakers series of the 80s. I HATED both teams and I was forced to watch them every summer.

I see it for what it is: the pandering of MLB to the two biggest payrolls.
It's almost comical to see MLB whine and complain when teams like the white sox and cardinals end up in the world series, when, all year long, the nation is force fed yanks/sox, and the casual fans doesn't get a chance to see the smaller market teams.
It's a self-fulfilling prophecy by the head honchos in MLB - show big market teams on national tv nearly exclusively, then get crushed in ratings when these teams don't make it to the world series.
