Ken Griffey Jr. Rookie Card Arrived Today.

Some little cracks on the case, but not bad for $5. Here are my (better than the auction) scans.

  • Nice! You know, with all of the steroid controversy that hangs over many of the stars of the past 10 years or so, Jr. comes out clean as a whistle and years from now, I believe we'll look back on him as one of the true legends of our time, as oppossed to a McGwire,Bonds & Sosa etc...

    Not only that, but as far as baseball cards go, he's the only rookie from the late '80s early '90s boom who actually lived up to the hype. You can only wonder what his stats would be like if he hadn't been hampered with injuries. Hope he gets a ring before he retires.
  • Another note about griffey I would like to add that makes him special. It would be his father-son relationship shared in the big leagues with his father.
  • I'm still amazed by the demand (although nothing like what it used to be) for his RCs, especially the UD. A few months ago I put in a last second bid for (2) UD rookies graded 9 and just lost out to another last second bid. They finished at $60. Amazing that you can pick one of those up in PSA 9 for $30 these days. It's one of the watershed cards of the hobby.

    Couldn't agree more ... a few months ago I acquired about 5 of the UD rookie in PSA 9 (all in the $30-35 range). From a long term standpoint, I see that card as an investment.

    Do you guys realize he's got 561 career HR's .... looking back 20 years from now, I bet he goes down as one of the top 5 greatest players from the '90-00 era. History books will be very kind.

    His hobby status is legendary! You would be or maybe you wouldn't be surprised but his cards sell especially well( the percieved rarer ones like):
    93 Finest Refractor always finishes in the 450 to 500 range raw! 93 SP holoview red goes for close to 100 each and everytime. He has many many cards from 89 to present that routinley sell in the 100 dollar range. There are many Griffey collectors but to them his rookies are old hat they want the serial numbered or autographed cards and wouldn't spend any kind of money on his rookies. I find it odd because his Bowman Tiffany and Fleer Glossy are tough and expensive in a 9 / 10. I will say one more thing BGS regular mainstream cards sell very very well . I just scored this for 6.00? Also scored some good grades on my last submission and have about 200 cards I want to send in but I just can't stand waiting 60 days for them !

    The 3 cards that represent the stages of the hobby;
    T206 Wagner
    1952 #311 Mantle
    1989 Upperdeck #1 Griffey

    Truely a bench mark card causing a resurgance of the hobby.
    I believe his card caused all the vintage cards to come out the closets
    and back into circulation.
