Who is best at authenticating newer autographs?

I love sportscards but would like to expand into 8x10s and such... who's authentication services are the most reliable for stuff like Favre, Manning, Brunell etc... Thanks.

    In my unbiased opinion, PSA/DNA - because they're the gold standard of the industry! image

    I would say PSA/DNA and JSA/SGC are on an even keel. Personally, I trust Spence's opinion over Steve Grad's, but with Mike Gutierrez's addition to the PSA fold it's back to being about even. Older GAI items (back when Mike was authenticating for them) are OK, but the problem with GAI items is that you never really know who is authenticating the signature (was it Mike? Was it Bob Ryder? Someone else?).

    Who is Rober Maris?
  • I prefer JSA. New, old doesn't matter he knows his stuff.
    Collecting;

    I see many auctions for unauthenticated modern autographed cards. What percentage of them do you think are real?

    Many of these guys are nobodies, I mean would someone forge a Luis Sojo autograph. Makes me wonder.

    Having been an "autograph hound" from the early 1970s to the early 1980s I can tell you that a lot MORE of that stuff is "good", especially as you say, the Luis Sojo's and such. The bad ones I see generally look like "through the mail" sigs where a wife or someone else signs the stuff for the player.

    Back in the day...

    it wasn't uncommon for a player to sign 10-12 cards at a time. Access to players was much easier.

    The fakes I see on eBay these days tend to be star players, and for the most part they are not even close.

    Definately agree here. I pick up lots of common player autographs and am perfectly comfortable with them being authentic. I just run quick checks and crossreference with other eBay auctions. Who would forge a Steve Searcy autograph? Twice? And put it on eBay as the same time as someone else?

    I can't speak for the newer common auto's, but I have seen my friend Carl Willeys autographed forged a few times on Ebay. I save all the pics and print them out for Carl to look at. I know they are not real, and he has confirmed that each one I showed him is forged. I have 30-40 of is autographs in my collection so I am pretty comfortable picking out real from fake.

    Why would someone forge his autograph? I have no idea. He is a great guy who is more than willing to sign for people. And his auto is pretty cheap if you were to buy it. But for some stupid reason, someone out there is faking them and passing them off to people as real autographs.
    Looking for Carl Willey items.
