LAST CALL: FSH: 1909 VDB Doubled Die Obverse PCGS MS64RB

Freshly graded last month, this coin once resided in a SEGS MS65RD holder. I tried to cross it once in the holder without success, then cracked it out and submitted it raw, when it received the 64RB grade. This coin has a lot more red than other PCGS red-brown examples I've found. In my opinion the reverse is full red, however the obverse is very streaky with several dark bands of color. Woodgrain planchets are pretty typical for 1909 cents, and I'm sure the dark streaks are what kept the coin out of a Red holder.
The first picture below is a scan and gives a pretty accurate representation of the color. The second close-up pics are in the SEGS holder. The third picture is a photograph which I monkeyed with to show the dark streaks, they are not nearly this noticable in the hand.
Again, this coin is much nicer than the typical Red-Brown example. Compare the images below to any of the following three Red-Brown coins in the Heritage archives (this one in 63RB, this 64RB, and this 65RB), and then to the 64RD coins sold by Heritage and Teletrade, and you can see just how close this coin is to full Red.
PCGS Population: 6 in 64RB, with 29 higher (2 in 65RB plus 27 more in 64RD up to 67RD)
Asking $500. PCGS Price Guide lists at $500. Price includes registered insured shipping.

<< <i>I have talked to people and done it myself sent coins in to PCGS in another holder and they never cross. One time an NGC crossed but I seen anacs, ntc, pci, sgc all those companies are all returned. I do believe PCGS does this on purpose so you dont buy any other grading companies coins. Just an opinion and only mine. >>
I've had some of all TPGs cross. (even ACG) Some were returned. I reason it was according to what they felt about the individual coin. Mike
I really think in this case it was the dark streaks on the obverse that kept it from crossing initially. Once the graders got the coin raw and saw those streaks were in the coin instead of on it the coin graded with no problems.
