Mastro Auctions - Market Topped Out?

Any bargains out there? Seems like the bidding is relatively low on lots of past high priced items 86/87 PSA 10 Basketball Set, Mantle PSA 8 etc... what are all of your thoughts. Has the market topped out?

Auctions end tonight -- anyone bidding?

    1) There will be significantly more bidding today

    2) $30+k for the '86 fleer basketball set does not seem to be inexpensive. But, again, that price will likely rise today.

    3) $200+K for a 30-card set? Pre-war vintage baseball is and continues to be very hot.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

I would think that ending this auction just a few weeks after the National could mean some bargains. Many big name players spend August paying off bills from the National.
It won't mean lower prices across the board, but maybe a bargain here and there.

  • I wouldn't go so far as to say that the market has topped out based upon the results of one auction with about 12 hours left to go; but I do feel like I am being beat like a circus monkey between REA, Lelands, Mastro's Collector Auction, Clean Sweep, Premier, Mastro Premier, more Clean Sweep, more Lelands, and regular eBay traffic. Good thing the National was on the other coast this year for me. As much as REA and this Mastro auction have material geared towards the Big Boys, there are smaller fish like myself with the occasional grand or two to toss in and this seemingly weekly bombardment of emails and catalogues tends to kill any chance of spirited bidding on my part. Especially since REA and the most recent Mastro Collectors Auction pretty much knocked me out for a while, though I do have wishfull thinking of clinging on to my one minimum bid tonight and getting a steal. Highly unlikely though...

I still can't afford it, but someday (soon) I'll get one of these. Until then, I wonder why this

is going for much less than this

The second item is listed as a "limited edition" but there isn't much of a difference. (I think the artist signed the limited edition, though I'm not sure.) The autographs are in a much more pleasing location in the second. Perhaps that's the reason. (I know I'd prefer the second, but I'm not sure how much of a premium I'd pay for the autographs' locations)
