Blister rack packs vs. Regular rack packs

I am tempted to buy a case of the 87 Donruss racks Steve has, Other than the blister racks having more cards in them, and facing a different way, what else is different from the regular rack packs? Do the cards store better in blister racks over the years, causing the blister racks to produce better quality when opened? Does anyone have any blister rack experience?

Ahhhhhh, Ok, after a little self searching I have found out a little bit more about the blister packs. I used to see those things all the time and never realized that is what they were called. Probably named that from the blister you got on your finger from opening the things.
It looks like since they are stored in a harder type of plastic casing with cardboard back that it would protect the cards pretty well.

  • I remember the 87 Donruss also came in a 4 pack (blister pack). Rather than 3 going down, it was 2 and 2 on a blister pack.....

    Two big differences:

    1) The condition of the cards usually sucks in the blister packs.

    2) The glue that holds the blister on is often loose, and some of the cards end up spilling out in transit.

Really? I would have thought the condition would have been better in those hard plastic shells. Thanks for the info;bro

  • If I remember right the cards move around more freely in the blister packs and they hit the hard plastic causing damage to the cards.

what boopotts said. i'd prefer regular racks over the blisters.

I have to agree with the glue issuse. I remember running into this problem when my neighborhood target would clear them at the end of the season. I would load up a shopping cart full of the best condition ones i could find. the checkers must have thought i was nuts spending money on these at 14.

Here is a shot I just took of a couple 1990 Donruss blister packs I bought for $1.50 (I was robbed! hehe) clearance price back in '90. I've kept them stored in a moderate environment since then. I think just a year or so ago one of them came unglued. Fortunately, because they were only '90Ds, I didn't (come unglued). Looking at the (78) cards in the opened packaging, they're in great shape. It had a lot of stars, too, including an inimitable Kirby card.

I recently bought 5 '87Donruss racks and the cards look to be in great shape there, too. I'll keep them unopened a while longer most likely...

  • A while back I saw a cse of Blister packs on ebay that the glue had come apart on them. Another vote for rack here.

  • I would stay away from the blister rack. I bought some 87 donruss ones and didn't end up having any that I would grade. Its almost like puttin your cards on those 50 count plastic boxes. There is enough room for the cards to shift and get dinged up.
