1985 topps fb wax box break...GRADES POPPED

Tonight. I was so excited when my 80's fb packs came that I needed to do a whole box.image

I'm like a little kid, I was contemplating telling my boss I was sick so I could go home early. I guess I will have to just be patient, which is very difficult for me.

I also got an 81 t bb box too. Tonights gonna be a good night. image

  • I'm doing the '85 FB set in NM raw. I have a want list if you're planning on getting rid of any Zef. Also interested in any Steve Carlton's you may pull from the '81 BB.

Zef, any chance you could scan them with the lid down? It's tough to see the centering and corners with the black background...

  • Wow. That Montana brings back memories. I used to have one of those back in the day. It was seriously beat up with major creases, major corner damage, major surface wear and major edge issues. One of those cards that gets passed around the neighborhood in various trading circles and usually gets transfered to its next deal in someone's back pocket. I had forgotten what it looked like. I almost didn't recognize it without a bend from corner to corner.

Damn it. Last time Zef had a break I ended up dropping some coin at BBCE. Must avoid urge ... must avoid urge ...

I don't really know much about football cards, but those black borders with the horizontal image are very nice.

Zef, could you put the scanner on it's side, so I can see the edges of the cards?

    Such a great, great set.

The team cards are my favorite...the action shots are very compelling and tell a great story in just one photo.

Keeping them raw, or do you think you'll do some grading?

I love the Dickerson. He was *the man* for a few years back then, and I loved how he wore so much equipment. He had the neck roll, the goggles, the cool face mask and the huge mouthgard. He really geared up for battle, didn't he? Great card...great set.
  • ArnyVeeArnyVee Posts: 4,245 ✭✭
These cards are SO tough to get in mint. I've almost given up trying to get raw cards graded because ones that look like 10s end up at 8s half the time! Tough borders, print spots, centering issues....just a tough set to put together. Only for the bravest of collectors! image

Grades just popped. A few of these are from the rip in this thread, and most are from a box I got from BBCE when 80's and I were there for the 75 mini break. That box had nearly perfect centering through out.

I have never sent any of them in but I would guess its easier to spot 9/10's with these than other years. Corner and edge wear stick out easy.

I'm assuming you got a 9 on the top left Moon.

I have quite a few 85 Moons and that's the best one I've ever seen.

    And you got a 9?

One thing is for sure, if I ever get around to submitting my cards, I sure as heck ain't gonna submit any 85 T FB image
