  • I think it'll be a 4 game Yankee lead in the AL East at the end of the series. Cano is back, and he's going to continue to show why he's an All-Star and Jete will show why he's in the running for the MVP. Ya'll Sox fans better prayer ole Boomer has some drinks in him, b/c otherwise that's already a win for the Yankees.

I say they just walk Ortiz and Manny every time up for the 5 games. Let one of the other 7 chumps try and win it for em.

Hey chumps or no chumps you guys cant shake us off just like we couldn't shake you off either.

There really is not a better series to get charged up for in all of sports IMO when the division lead hangs in the balance........

You got that right Perk. It really is amazing to see how this thing developed over the last 10 or so years. As much as I dislike the Sox it makes for some baseball every year.

It doesn't get much better than this....except, of course, post season. Hoorahhhh. Let the better man win.

The time for talk is now over.
The series starts Friday with the Yankees either being up 1 1/2 games or 2 1/2 games.
    Starting Pitchers:
Friday game one Wang Vs Lester
Friday game two Ponson Vs Johnson
    Saturday Johnson Vs Beckett
    Sunday Mussina Vs Schilling
Monday Lidle Vs Wells (this pitching match up has yet to be decided but seems very logical)

Match-ups could not really be any better. The Yankees young gun versus the Sox young gun. The Yankees reject versus the Sox reject. The Yankee pitcher not living up to expectations versus the Sox pitcher not living up to expectations. The two aces. Last, a couple of pitchers who have not pitched much this season for their respective teams. Should be fun!!!!!!

  • ctsoxfanctsoxfan Posts: 6,246 ✭✭
I love the Friday matchups in particular - Wang is not a good pitcher on the road (5.16 ERA) and he strikes out basically no one, while Lester going during the day is a good thing (lefty pitchers have an edge at Fenway during day games). Ponson is just Ponson, I could go out there and pitch and the Sox would have the edge there.

Beckett needs to step up Saturday, Schilling has been pitching very well of late, and Wells looked decent tonight. The only pitcher from the Yanks who worries you is Mussina, and barely a little at that. Lidle has struggled since the Phils dumped him - let's hope that continues.

The Sox need four wins to have a shot at the playoffs. Anything less and it won't even come down to the final week. Yankees take the first three because they hit better, the Sox take the last two because they like to give their fans false hope. image Don't worry Sox fans, your Yankee buddies will be golfing with you 5 days into the post season.

This five game series has got about everything you could want - the best rivalry in baseball and a tight race
with the games meaning something. No wonder ESPN has been giving it so much attention.

Would it be safe to be a Yankee fan in Fenway park this weekend wearing Yankee clothing and waving a Yankee flag? image

    Jerry,

Before you go into the predictable diatribe about how tough a time you think the Yankees will have in the post-season just remember that not more than a month ago you were yapping about the Sox and Blue Jays finishing ahead of them and about how the Yankees "brass" did not plan for "what has happened to them" image

ctsoxfan-Funny, Cano has as many RBI as Manny and Ortiz have COMBINED.

Welcome to the most overrated, overhyped, overplayed so called rivalry in sports.

I am not a Yankees fan by any stretch - as a matter of fact, I hate them and the fact that they make baseball unenjoyable to watch - BUT:

    1) They are light years better than Boston this year.

    2) Boston will not make the playoffs.

    3) 26 WS titles to one since 1918 does not equate to a "rivalry".

    4) Many of Boston's fans - who have progressed into being boorish and obnoxious since 2004 - will deserve this failure by this year's edition to make the postseason. They'll have to live with the fact that they are AL's 5th or 6th best team.

    Ron

PS. If NYY makes it to the WS, I will not watch a single pitch. I didn't watch a single pitch the last time they were there (2003) and I won't do it this year.
