Buying jerseys on E-bay

I was thinking about buying a Football jersey of my favorite team with favorite players name on it. I have heard there can be a lot of jersey scammers selling "fake" jerseys on E-bay. Does anyone have a seller they have bought a jersey from in the past where they received an authentic jersey? Mesh material, tackle twill, sewn in name etc.....
Thanks

  • Do you mean an actual "Game used" jersey or a regular manufactured "authentic" jersey?

I just ordered a throwback Unitas jersey a couple weeks ago, I haven't gotten it yet though. Should be later this week. I don't know if the guy makes his own or what, but the price was good and the pics looked good. I'll let you know. My seller was madaboutjerseys I think...

No they are a company that makes authentic jerseys....you can actually go to their website(mitchellandness.com I believe) and check them out. There are a lot of these on ebay. I picked up a Jack Lambert one last year. Great jersey

  • Most of the M & N jerseys will set you back 150-250.00, and most are of the retro variety (Ted Williams, Elway, Mantle etc.)
If you are interested in modern jerseys, just find out who has the equipment contract with the team you are interested in. All teams dont use "sewn on tackle twill" lettering or mesh. Just about anything you buy will be nice as long as you stay away from the cheap "T-shirt" variety.........

M and N are the nicest "authentic" jerseys but expensive. There are dozens of sellers of other jerseys. I bought a Dodger jersey recently. I checked feedback, pictures, etc... before bidding. There were some auctions that looked too good to be true and upon closer inspection they do appear to have been "homemade." Spend some time looking around the Bay and you will find what the brand(s) are for your team, how much they should cost, etc.... Not sure if my seller sells football. I bought mine from pro-jerseys. I would say 99.9% of the jerseys advertised as "authentic" on Ebay are fake. They're good fakes because they're so cheap and the numbers are usually stitched on, cheap mesh, etc...but make no mistake about it, they're fake. You don't buy authentic NFL jerseys that sell for $200 from NFLshops.com or other major sporting good stores for $25-50 like you find on Ebay, which is what a lot of these fakes will go for.

I have a few authentic jerseys and a few fake authentics that I bought on Ebay simply because I don't feel like shelling $250 for a jersey. When you compare the two in person, the fake jerseys are very apparent. The truly authentic jerseys have MUCH higher quality, the cut, material and everything else compared to the Ebay fakes.

Fake jerseys on ebay is such a big business, most of these sellers have thousands upon thousands in stock.

Chances are, your friends and family won't know your fake ebay jersey is a cheap copycat, but someone who knows their authentic jerseys will be able to spot your fake one pretty easily though.

By the way, I've noticed some sellers of fake jerseys on Ebay purposely charge $150 or so for their stuff, just to give the buyer the impression that the jerseys must be real because it's so expensive. It's not.

If you really want an authentic jersey, I would avoid Ebay and stick with the MVP.coms and NFLshop.coms of the world. Way too many fakes on Ebay and if you're not sure what you're getting, you're probably buying a fake.

Thats what Im looking for; the so-called authentic looking jersey, for lack of a better word. The kind with the sewn on name and numbers. I realize these that sell on E-bay arent Team Issued, but I think they look pretty good for the price. I have an authentic team issued jersey from 20 years ago and it is starting to fall apart. Thanks everyone for input, much appreciated.

  • Depending on your budget (and whether your favorite player is a big star or not) you might explore the option of seeking out a "team issued" jersey (a jersey issued by the team for the player for game use, but not actually worn) or a bona fide "game worn" jersey. You can, of course, find many fake "game worn" jerseys on eBay, but there are legit ones to be had. I know of some other trusted sources for authentic game issued or worn jerseys. If you want to explore that route I can elaborate. It's a little surprising, but I've seen some "authentic" replica jerseys of a player sell for more than the real thing on occasion.

I have bought several for cheap and been all good. I am a bit of a jersey fanatic/expert. If you do your homework and look for the right things you can find some amazing deals. Look for a buyers guide on ebay as I am sure that there is one.

  • I have never had a problem buying jerseys on Ebay, but did also find a good source for those that are not too picky.

www.finishline.com has a great clearance section.

Click Clearance and then Fan Shop. Baseball and football for much less than MLB or NFL prices. Now, you'll notice that many are players that have recently been traded, but hey I picked up a Jerry Rice Raiders jersey for $20 last year. There are bargains of current players too and the choices get better after the season is over.

I've bought Nike authentic (with tags) Carter, a nice Reebok Ming, Reebok Bettis, all with tags, authentic, real cheap. And even if they arent the real thing, they are sewn, and I can't tell the difference. Ignorance is bliss.

you will like whatever you get, especially for the price. Why pay $200 more for something you can't tell the difference? I guess this is why I dont buy vintage psa 9's instead of 8's or 8's instead of 7's lol
