Hello all,
First of all I am currently #12 on the registry for the 1981-1982 Topps Basketball set(I know this set is none to popular!). I just got my subs back from PSA and low and behold the Billy Paultz(AKA "The Whopper") #87 Mid-West card came back a 10. Now my questions is should I just add this to my set or should I sell this card being that it is a 1/1. What would you do?.
Thaks, Mark

The #2 set isn't far from the #1 set. It's possible that they (#2) see the card and pay the $$ to get your card. There's only 5 9s and no other 10s. You might just do pretty well with it on ebay.
If you keep it then you have the only 10, but being 12th in line and the card only having a set value of 1, it isn't going to make much of a difference.
Sell the 10 and buy some upgrades, you'll boost your set and get closer to done.

With that in mind, I say keep the card. You may get more 10's down the road and bump up your average.
<< <i>No offense, and I know that this will stir the proverbial pot but calling a card a 1/1 just because its the only card so far to receive that grade is wrong imho. Calling it the only PSA 10 is fine but saying 1/1 implies that the card is the only one that will ever be in existance.

I dont mind people advertising things as 1/1. I dont look at it in the future tense. Problem with 1/1 is the glut on Ebay so no one uses it anymore anyways as a key word. It brings up more junk than actual cards anymore (or used to anyways).
Anybody that buys into 1/1 with less than 100 cards actually graded is only buying the title anyways and not the card. Tough call to make if you are interested in ever achieving No. 1 or if you'll just be happy with completing the set. Thats what its all about...
Especially with a more modern set like that, I would say sell the card while it still holds its 1/1 status. It's probably only a matter of time before another one comes along.. or two... or three...
Looking for Jonny Gomes cards, especially Triple Threads and printing plates. Will consider all cards, though. Got something? Contact me at c_u_l_1@yahoo.com
Totally agreed!! I built my 86 fleer and 87 Fleer basketball sets that way. Sold off the 10's...and used the money to fill many many empty 9 holes.
By the time I was done with a complete psa 9 86 set...I had just $1300 in the whole thing....with the 87 set..it was 93% complete when I sold it...and had just $400 into the entire set!!
Even if you got $100 for that card delivered and insured...that's another 15-20 PSA 9's you could fill off Ebay....
