Question on pack grading

Since PSA is entering this market, I was thinking about this and I came up with a question. When a pack is graded, is it going to be only the pack itself that is graded or is the card(s) showing on top/bottom going to be taken into consideration in the case of a cello or rack pack? For example, if it's a 1983 Topps cello pack with T. Gwynn showing on front, but the Gwynn card is clearly way off-center, would they take that into consideration, or are they strictly grading the pack itself? Does anyone know GAI's approach to this?

  • Look at the standards. The card is leeked at as well as the pack.

    PSA Pack Grading.
  • I was told that everything will be used in the grading process.Including the top and bottom cards that are viewable.I am not sure if packs should be graded that way, because an example being:With 1975 rack packs it is very common to have a machine ejector mark on one of the cards on top.But I have never seen any cards below that card damaged in my years of busting packs. Therefore only the top card in that row is usyally the one damaged.

  • Only the centering of the cards will be taken into account.
  • I still think that pack grading is a scam to make money. Its so easy to reseal a pack. There is no expert who can look at a pack and tell you with absolute certainty that it is unaltered.

I beg to differ. Ryan Rutter is the only man in the world who can do so. Just ask him. Ooops. Thats right. He doesnt work there anymore......
