Lotsa NEWPS and a travesty...

Some local, some Ebay, some from NEN and Harlan Berk.

First the travesty... I saw the reverse of this coin first... and then made the mistake of flipping it over... NOOOOOOOOO! Surface pitting. image

  1. British North Borneo 1 Cent, 1894. NNC XF45 Yeah, I know, "Bob's Slabbing Co., Inc." I think the grade is more of an EF40, and just needs a crackout and a bath. Since there's a return policy, I don't hesitate. I treat them as raw coins. Still, you can occasionally get deals on coins in NNC slabs, simply because people stay so far away from them. Krause EF is $110. This coin was $18.50 (I think Krause may be a tad high though).

  2. Geneva 6D, 1833. NGC MS62. Colorful little thing. I keep forgetting how billon coins don't have the greatest surfaces and appearances as coins go. They don't come very lustrous (or only rarely so).

  3. Geneva 1 Centime, 1844. NGC MS63 RB.

  4. Aargau 2.5 Rappen, 1831. NGC MS63.

  5. Geneva 25 Centimes, 1844. NGC MS64.

  6. Geneva 10 Centimes, 1844. NGC MS65. Actually a decent amount of lustre on this billon piece.

  7. United States 1/2 Cent, 1849. PCI EF45.

  8. Tunisia 1/4 Kharub, AH1281. NGC PF67 RD. I would have expected mirror fields on a proof. Not so much. Specimen maybe?

  9. Chile 1 Peso, 1885. NGC MS63. I like the steel gray appearance of this one...

  10. Bolivia 8 Reales, 1818 PJ.

    imageimage

  11. Bolivia 8 Reales, 1788 PR. Some tooling on the reverse to remove a solder blob, but other than that, not bad...

  12. Guatemala 1/2 Real Counterstamped on Peru 1 Sol, 1871.

  13. Philippines 50 Centavos, 1947.

  14. Philippines 1 Peso, 1947.

  15. Canada 5 Cents, 1910 Pointed Leaves.

  16. Canada 5 Cents, 1900 Round 0.

  17. Hesse Darmstadt 2 Marks, 1904 A. Not high grade, but nice subtle toning.

    imageimage

  18. Latvia 1 Lats, 1924. Gorgeous toning, but I'm not thrilled with the grade. Sold as an UNC, and I think it's AU at best...

    imageimage

  19. Germany 3 Marks, 1930 D. Fairly low mintage, only 40,000...

    imageimage

  20. Great Britain 1 Florin, 1911. Drop-dead gorgeous... will go in for slabbing at some point.

Dan, specimen for sure. IMHO, there are no proofs of that date, all these coins that you and I in particular seem to enjoy so much, are the Heaton Mint's own specimens. I believe that the 1 kharoub that you got from me was labelled SP66RD by NGC, I don't know why they called this quarter a proof, but it's a similar situation to the Romanian banis, from the same collection.

I recently bought the entire Tunisian 4 specimen coin set and it's going to PCGS for encapsulation ,grading and photos, although the (NGC) multiholder of a completer sp set sounded tempting for a moment.

    Great group. image
