Is this pretty good for a starter detector?

Hey I just purchased a realy cheapo detector and then saw this one. Is this pretty good for a first one?

    I'd go for a more modern detector than that.
    Likely benefits over that old detector:

    * Lower weight
    * Better battery economics
    * Better discrimination capabilities
    * More depth
    * More target information (e.g. depth indication)
    * Better ergonomics
    * More accurate target pinpointing

    Here's a link with plenty of detectors kellyco.
    I'd suggest saving up a bit more money and going e.g. for a Garrett Ace 250. Maybe you can find one of those on e-bay as well.
    Minelab: GPX 5000, Excalibur II, Explorer SE. White's: MXT, PI Pro
  • That's the only problem, I don't have much money at all. That's why I liked this one, I mean it's pretty good for the price, right?

    Well, it's already bid up to nearly $50. Add shipping and that detector won't exactly be free either..
    I still suggest waiting and saving money. You can try out hunting with your first machine in the meantime.
    The handle on that machine looks like a potential arm killer. And, as mentioned, numerous other benefits with a newer machine as well.

  • That unit look to be in good condition.
    I would not bid any higher. Let the other guy snipe your bid.

    Your on the right track. That machine is much better than your first try. :-)

  • That coil looks like it has been repaired at the right side mount.

  • You got it! image
    Now you have two detectors :-) One for a friend.

    Good Luck

  • Yeah, I wasn't expecting to pay 11.07 for shipping, but oh well, i guess it's a heavy machine. Thanks for sticking with me!

    Was it you who won that old Garrett for $51? Not too bad. I wouldn't have gone a whole lot higher than that, but it should be worth that much. Certainly it will be a better machine than the $15 toy you also bought.
