This excludes the finds made in the 1970s and early 1980s when I was a kid, using an old TR unit- unfortunately I did not keep records then. My recordkeeping began in 1992. One of the very first finds I can remember, made with a $15 "toy" detector in the late 70s, was a 1946 dog rabies vaccination tag.
My very first signal was a ghost signal at 8 inches. I dug in the spot for ages, never found anything. Eventually the signal disappeared too
On my first outing on that beach, I got three modern coins in about three hours. I thought I was doing a really lousy job (but was still very excited).
While this was true, I later found out that this beach was one of the worst beaches I could possibly have started with - lots of trash but very few coins.
