1952 Mantle on ebay, PSA 6OC, but I think it might be a MC

Take at look at this one. The centering is really really poor, enough so that I think it might be a MC.

1952 Mantle OC or really MC???
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

as long as there is a border , it will earn the "OC" designation , they will only give the "MC" if there isn't any border at all

That's not true..check out the Clemente in my recent submission. I thought the same thing. If you read the definition for MC on the PSA page, it says it will get this qualifier if a portion of another card is visible BUT this Clemente got it anyway and there is still white border on the bottom....and the reverse is centered nicely.

  • is it just me...or is there a crease in the right side of the card as well...mid-way on the right side...
It is a bad scan.....it could be a scratch in the plastic...

The best part is when he claims it to be 79-21..HE measured it...lol

That card is 85-15 at best...90-10 on any other day...

However you may also have a miscut with borders showing.Have had some of those.

is there really a difference between an mc or oc qualifier anyway? once the card is qualified , a scan is necessary to determine the degree. surprised on the mc card with the border showing though. usually thought that would go oc but it is really irrelevant which qualifier they slap on it.

  • I think the MC vs. OC depends greatly on the back too.

If there is a border and all print is showing on the back, then it's an OC. However, if the front has a border (albeit thin) but the back has some of the edge print cut off, then it's MC. Or at least that's my experience. I have this happen to 1948/9 leaf SPs fairly often. I wonder if that clemente shown has a little bit of print cut off on the back....if not, then that should be an O/C in my opinion....or shouldn't have a Q at all actually.

I looked at that Mantle that the link led to, and maybe I'm just seeing things here, but I am pretty sure I see a thin crease on the right side of the card. I have had a card that got a crease AFTER being put in the holder.....maybe this too? Am I crazy, or do i see a crease a little more than midway up the right edge??

It's not unheard of for cards to develop wrinkles after being slabbed. It's a byproduct of soaking and pressing cards before submitting them.
