It's an Australian 5 cent piece. It's slightly smaller than an American nickel, which is what it was recieved in lieu of.

It's an Australian animal that is like a porcupine. Except it lays eggs.

And Echidna was also a mother of pretty much every major monster in Greek Mythology. She had a face and torso of a woman, but her lower body was that of a snake.
