Thoughts on resubmitting cards.....any luck??

Any of you had much of a success rate resubmitting cards previously graded by PSA??

I'm starting to think that after a few years of submitting cards, buying cards already graded, etc. that I'm getting a feel for grading and what a card should look like in a certain grade. My last six card submission yielded an 8 I thought would be an 8, a 9 that I thought should be a 9, and four 10's that I thought would be 10's. I'm usually not always right, but I have a much better clue than I did 5 years ago when I sent my first cards in (an embarrassingly poor submission I must confess)

I was looking at some of the cards I've bought over the years and they all fall into the $50-$150 price range, all I can ever afford. But as I inspect them closely, I honestly feel some of them are undergraded. As examples, I have a PSA 8 Arod Sp rookie, a 1965 PSA 7 Carlton rookie, and a 1960 PSA 7 Yaz rookie. All these cards fall in the $100 range but an increase in one grade is substantial (for me anyway)

I've acquired about 35 PSA 6's for my 1955 All American set, and when you put 35 psa 6's together, some of them are obviously much better looking than others. I realize there are 6's that were almost 7's and 6's that were almost 5's, but some of these nice looking 6's look dang near like 8's to me.

So just for fun, I thought about doing a little cracking and resubmitting, perhaps getting a high end psa 7 card into an 8 holder.

I'd add scans but I don't think anyone could really tell from a scan.

So my question is this. Anyone tried much of this?? And how was the success rate to improvement?

I know it'd be throwing money away for all the cards to come back the same grade (I'm confident the one's I'm thinking of submitting can't possibly come back a lower grade) but it wouldn't take but one or two to make up for the cost.

Just bored today and thought of giving it a try.

thanks

I have also improved on my "pregrading" skills and lately have been really close on my subs. I have many cards that are under graded, and recently had a 75 Carew bumped from an 8 to a 9 and a 57 Bunning RC from a 7 to an 8. The only thing is it is not worth trying on my 57 commons that are 6's and look like 8's. The differnece between 6-7 is small and they grade them all over the map. I just sell the 6's and buy 7's and it is a push $ wise.
In your case I would try the two RC's and probably leave the 55 AA alone. I doubt it would be worth it to grade at $6 a card for a chance at a 7. But a good eye and a high % would go a long way.

some cards probably, inherently require graders to grader tighter, whether that is knowingly or not.

if i am a grader and a 1980 luis tiant and a rickey henderson card are both in line, what is my line of thinking and do both cards get judged w/ same unbiased opinion?

  • My resubmission results have been fantastic. On 3 separate occasions, I've cracked and had 8s --> 10s. I've cracked numerous 9s --> 10s of course. I have never had a card go down on a crack and resubmit.

If you are very selective, you can usually get a higher grade.

Wow, that's impressive. Seems it might be worth a try and can be done.
