Newbie Questions

I'm just getting broke in and have some questions.
What are Game used?
What is jersey?

As many of you know I have approx. 80,000 sportscards for sale. I recieved them all at once. Thousands of these cards are gradable. I have been entering them on beckett just to keep trackof them.
I have entered 8,000 cards so far. Commons and not commons. A big mix. According to the Beckett price, I am averaging $1 a card. I know this is a miss leading number and I know I have alot of commons left so I expext this average to go down some but I still have a huge selection of quality cards to enter yet.

My question is - should I send some in to be graded? It wouldn't be hard to spend alot of money doing so. Could I get my investment back?
How would some of you do it? What criteria would you use in selecting?

Thanks,
Raisnvegas

It seems to me you are spending an incredible amount of time listing cards that average at $1.00 each or less in value..... 80,000 cards means you have at least 16 5000ct boxes. Most card shops sell these boxes full of cards for about $30 to $40. It would cost you more to ship these cards then they are worth at "real value".

If I were in your situation, I would pull out every card that is worth more than $10 or older than 1979. Try selling these cards in smaller lots, you might be able to achieve a reasonable percentage of value. The others (modern commons) should be donated or sold for about .01 to .05 cents each.

  • Game used are cards issued from major card companies with actual swatches of game used jersey from the player represented on the card. Their is a wide variety available; jerseys/pants/helmets/shoes/uniform patches etc.

I don't think you should use the beckett system to put in commons. It just adds WAY to much time, I only use it on cards that I believe have some value.

I've been collecting for years, and I have yet to send in any cards to get graded. I purchase them b/c most of the players I collect are not in high demand. But, if you find a nice rookie that you think you should send in, my advice is to post a high-res scan on the sports memorabilia forum. They'll show you how to figure out what "type" cards you should send in.
