Can this be topped?

Last night at a minor league game, a man was pointed out to me who was a former major leaguer. His name was Dick Egan, a pitcher for the Tigers, Angels, and Dodgers. He had a short career but get this: He has four Topps cards, 1963, 1964, 1966, and 1967 but only 1 career win. Is there any other player who has more mainstream cards without any wins or just one win? No pre-rookie cards please.

Might not top yours but Ernie Davis is a short print rookie in 62 topps and never played a down in the nfl. I'm not sure if there are any other cards of players who died before they could play. I don't think Len Bias ever had a card.

There was a pinch runner for the A's (herb washington?) who I don't think could hit at all but could fly. If I remember right he never batted once. He has a card in the 75 topps set.

There might have been a few players in the nfl who got hurt and never played, can't think of any though.

Well, Egan was not a starting pitcher--he was a relief pitcher who appeared in 74 games (closing 29 of them) so his job really wasn't to win games--just provide middle relief and pick up saves here and there. I guess we could search a database for relief pitchers to see who never or rarely got any official wins and then check Beckett player guide to see how many cards they have--I would bet there are a good number of pitchers with multiple cards and 0-1 wins.

I don't mean to be a "sourpuss", just pointing out some facts.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • Yeah, I noticed that he started no games in his career but it still struck me as odd that he didn't accumulate more than one win. 3 of his cards are high numbers so maybe he didn't play the whole season each year and was a late call up. I am not sure how Topps made their cuts for the later series.

    Moonlight Grahamimage
  • Herb Washington's "position" was pinch-runner!

Think of all the doof's who have shiny cards today, but will never have an at bat, play a down, take a shot, etc.

Ahhhhhhhhh, Dr. Archie "Moonlight" Graham from Chisholm, Minnesota. Great character!
