Memory Lane auction

What did those of you active in the Memory Lane auction think about the results?

The '52 Topps Mantles went for some pretty amazing prices..and the '71 PSA 10 Bradshaw for $18K had to make the consigner happy considering it was a 1 of 3.

Any bargains in there?

  • I don't know I think the Bradshaw stayed pretty low. $16000 seems pretty tame.
A top tier player in the 71 baseball set in PSA 10 would have gone for at least that much.
A Rose or Munson, maybe even a Jackson.

PSA 10 Staubach sold for $22,000 last year, so I think the Bradshaw was a steal as well...

  • I was watching that Bradshaw card (from afar). That card is a razor. Phonomenal.

    My sets:
1977 Topps Star Wars - "Space Swashbucklers"
  • I thought the Young and Bradshaw went a little cheap.

I bought the Marino PSA 10 rookie for $1,074 plus juice. Not bad....it's very nice.

The 1972 Topps Baseball "Vending" set (#809) - for $4,400? That one astounded me...

  • The Memory Lane auctions are tough for California residents. You've got a 15% buyers premium, plus 7.75% sales tax on top of that. The effective "juice" is almost 24%. I usually just sit and watch.

The vintage market is just on fire. $32 k for a PSA 7 '52 Mantle that wasn't even that well centered. 8's were selling for that, not that long ago. Some of it looks like a bubble ($16 k for a '39 Playball Mo Berg?).

Some of the wax went for a little less than I figured. The '57 Football pack for $670 and the '52 Bowman large pack.

The other ones seemed to be in line, Jay:

    1968 - $2,700
    1969 - 1,400
    1970 - 900
    1971 - 2,500
    1973 - 950
    1974 - 715
    1975 - 715

    But that '72...Wow!!

  • I got the t201 set, thought it was a good deal, considering the presence of the PSA 6 cobb, and went too low even with juice.

I wish I would have gotten the catalog sooner than the day before so I could have gotten the cash together to bid on some of those vending sets.
