I thought I was the only one drooling over Steve's uploads tonight, It s awesome to see when he updates his site. If you time it just right you can just set there and hit the refresh button on your screen for about an hour. Better than most movies I have spent an hour watching.

Ummmm....I don't, uh.... I can't...... ummm..... wow. Why does that 72 wax box look cleaner than a 2006 Topps booster that was just put on the shelf at Wal-Mart?

Steve thought so too. His description:
1972 Topps Football Unopened Series 3 Wax Box. This box is as sick as they get. MINT...MINT...MINT....the bxo and the packs. They don't get any better. Contains 24 packs from the 3rd(hi number) series.

gosteelers, the third series is much more difficult to find than the first series. If you look at a beckett football guide, you'll see book values for just the third series common cards are like 8-18 dollars each, while the commons from the first two series are like 25-60 cents each.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
<< <i>How come Steve always has his best stuff when I am lowest on cash ? >>
Tel mee about it. I decided today to pay a CC bill I was planning on paying at the end of the month. That money would have been much better spent on some stuff to rip.
<< <i>Excuse my ignorance. What's in a 1972 Series 3 box? I'm sure there's lots, I just can't think right now...(Staubach, Bradshaw?) >>

No on the Terry and Roger.
The card that I would want to pull is Namath and I think there's a checklist that's kind of expensive also. And a sentimental favorite in this series - Blanda.
Spurrier's RC is in the last series also - for those who are fans.

Wasn't this somewhat because Fritsch has cases on cases of this?
It is actually because I am hording cases upon cases of the third series in my climate controlled storage unit. It is my reitrement fund

Anyone have any experience w/ 70's cello boxes? Assuming the cards have been handled w/ care (or whatever), are the corners dinged from tightly wrapped packs?
Why did Topps stop offering wax boxes in the cool elongated box?
zef, Between me and softparade I'm surprised is there are any 78 boxes left unopened. But seriously, the 78 boxes I bought from Steve were as fresh as the 72 FB pictured, but of course not nearly as impressive. I gotta admit, Steve gets the best unopened stuff and prices it reasonably. You may say to yourself "I could get it cheaper on ebay", but buying unopened vintage on ebay vs. buying from BBCE is like buying PRO vs. PSA. You know it's legit, and the premium he charges is worth the confidence that you're getting the real thing.

Very well put. And hes a good guy and has a good customer service sense.
All this made me itch. I just ordered a 1985 FB wax box. That other chit listed tonight is too pricey just to satisfy an itch. He did list a 67 Philly pack that almost called me, but I opted for a full box over a pack.
<< <i>julen, Topps cellos from the 70s always yield cards with crushed corners. I'd be surprised if 1% of the PSA 10's from the decade came from cellos.

I know Lee is mostly speaking of the 78's he has come across, but I busted a 70 fb and had the same thing. I didn't even get a 9 and 80% of the cards were well centered.
The vintage cello boxes are always a better investment left unopened. Steve also listed a 1972 wax tray, wow! I remember one that was up for sale on ebay about 2 years ago and I think it ended for about the same price that Steve has listed it for. The 69 tray is incredible. I've never even seen one prior to 1972 till now. Wow, have the 75 mini cellos dropped in price! I remember Steve listed a box last year and the bidding reached close to 5k but reserve was not met. Now, he has one for sale at 3k. It's amazing how prices are so sharply affected when some product stashed away hits the market.
Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
That '69 Tray is probably the best buy of the bunch. Regular packs sell for at least $450-600, you get 6 packs, plus the relatively small premium for the rarity of the tray. That's as blue chip as they get.
My guess as to what will sell the fastest....that tray, the '55 Bowman football cello pack, the '57 Topps baseball cello and the '73 Topps football box (which you never see).

There was a '69 wax tray up for auction in Mastro a year or so ago but I don't remember what it closed at.
I wonder if anyone knows or can tell what series those 69 packs are from?
