    Gene,

Don't feel alone. PCGS has been heck on cleaning/artificial color for grey copper lately.

  • PCGS seem to have a problem with ' Cleaned ' on Canadian coins. I have had a number of original coins returned BB over the last few months and can see no reason for most of them.
I have slowed my submissions as I donot want to waste the money. Four or five submissions a month is down to one a month!

Bet it isn't cleaned. I had a 1947 PT7 BBed by PCGS, then 'slabbed' by CCCS. Like Rob and Tony said, PCGS is brutal on Canadian bronze coins, they have questional coloritis.

    6 - 10114696 - 1894 25C CANADA VF35
An EF40 is worth 2.5x more. Would like to see this one.

Don't feel too bad; other than you're wallet is lightened for nothing.image

That 1837N13 LC with Questionable Color is the Noyes plate coin which has a pedigree dating to Joe Flynn in 1964......noting those same colors

IMO, I dare say Bill Noyes knows one hell of a lot more about early U.S. copper, and natural color(s) than anyone at PCGS.

Here's one of my latest economy orders. I admit I occasionally get fooled on one, but this seems a little over the top.

    Just reviewed my records:

I've submitted 139 Canadian coppers and 121 have graded since 2003. All but one of the 18 that did not grade were "questionable color" from the grading years 2005-2006.

I guess my "eye" has changed as I got older.

Conversely, I just found out that this coin, which PCGS recently graded MS-63 RB, was cross graded by ICCS as MS-62RB "Dbld 1941". Seems no matter which direction you try to cross grade lately, you lose. image
