Joe Mauer is making a strong bid for AL MVP

I would vote for him.

he seems to sit and DH a lot for an MVP type catcher/team leader...but i'm not seeing the twins much besides box scores.

I think the AL MVP all hinges on which teams get in out of NY, Boston, and Minny. If Boston gets in, Papi wins the award. If NY wins the division, Jete should win be given serious consideration. If Minny gets in(wildcard) then Mauer should be given serious consideration.

If Boston gets in, Papi wins the award.

Definitely. I agree too that Jeter should get serious consideration if NY wins the East and Boston doesn't make the playoffs. Even though Big Papi has far superior power numbers, Jeter has a much higher average and, most importantly, he plays the field, and many old school voters will have a problem voting for a guy if he's a DH.

    That's a logical outcome.

Yep, and for Jete he's definetly kept the team together when for quite a while the Yankees were figured to be dead in the water with the losses of Godzilla and Sheff, as well as the "horrible" pitching. But, he like every MVP rallied his team and kept the Yankees within striking distance of the AL East lead even with Boston going on an amazing tear earlier in the summer. All 3 to me are worthy candidates, and like I said it all hinges on who gets in and the way in which they get in.

As long as the red sox are in the race until the end, Ortiz has the MVP wrapped up.

Jeter's had a nice year, but Ortiz has substantially better numbers.

Honestly, I will be just floored if Ortiz doesn't win the MVP. Especially after he just lost out to A-Rod last year.

I am biased here but even if I wasn't I would say Ortiz is the hands down MVP regardless if the Sox make the playoffs. The whole scenario as far as who's in and who's out is so tight that you might have to address the man who kept the team in it.

Which I believe Jete fits the bill as well. Whole outfield was out for an extended period, A-Rod just hasn't been the same this year, and Jete is batting nearly .350.

TC, I agree to disagree. Actually I respect Jeter 100%, I just think Ortiz #'s and game deciding #'s fare good enough to get him over the top at M.V.P

We ALL know Ortiz is a favorite to win the MVP this year. That off course does not mean he is a shoe in. With me being too lazy to do the research, when was the last MVP to hit under .290 ? Or even .300 ?

Alright, I did the research. The last three AL MVP's that were batters ....... to hit under .300 were A-Rod in 2003 .298 and then Don Baylor .296 in 1979, Reggie Jackson .293 in 1973

The last AL MVP to hit under .290 was Harmon Killebrew in 1969 when he hit .276. That of course was a MUCH different game in that era .....
