    Premature?

The Red Sox led the division for almost the entire season, and the one day the Yanks took over first place (roughly a week ago) a thread appears saying the Sox are all of a sudden done - now that's premature!

Cory Lidle did his best Shawn Chacon / Ponson / Wright / Pavano impersonation tonight, and the lead is back to one. It's time for reality to set in on the Evil Empire - if it doesn't by the end of the weekend, it will next weekend when the Yanks come to Fenway.

  • lol, atleast that's what your hoping for. REALITY IS, the Sox couldn't put away a gimp NY Yankee team for the whole season, no matter how hot the Sox were, they just couldn't pull away. Maybe when that reality hits you, you'll realize the Sox will be LUCKY to even make the postseason.

I beg your pardon but the last time I looked at the MLB standings the Yankees were up by 3 games in the all important lost column. A little premature on your part won't you say?

obviously an alt troll. Time to do some detective work to figure out who (though I have a strong inkling who it is).

Kojak, why is a low number of posts an automatic cause for your concern? Most people would view 10,000+ posts in just 2 years as the one that's out of the ordinary. I think this obsession/paranoia you have about other posters and who they may or may not be is most amusing, if not a bit ridiculous.

Because someone having an account for 5 years with less than 100 posts is very, very out of the ordinary, and the surest sign of an alt.

2-0 since the start of this thread....................image

  • The Yankees were suppose to fold after Matsui and Sheffield got hurt. They instantly lost 200+ RBI's as well as 60+ Home Runs. The Red Sox had an opportunity to put the proverbial nail in the Yankees' coffin but they didn't. Also for the 2nd year in a row the Yankees brought up a very good rookie, a 21 year old minor leaguer named Melky Cabrera to to replace the injured Matsui. For a team that supposedly does not have anyone in their farm system, the Yankees have gotten 3 great youngsters over the last 2 years. Melky is having almost as good of a year that Cano had last year. Cabrera's minor league manager said recently that he expects Cabrera to win a MLB title some day.

It's about time that Cashman convinced Steinbrenner that giving away future potential stars is not the way to to go. Farm bred players like Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, and Andy Pettitte were the pillars of the dynasty from 1996-2001. With that said, the Yankees have gotten away from what mde them great by signing aging super stars and giving away many good prospects. Did anyone notice the year former Yankee Juan Rivera is having? He is putting up 2006 vintage-like ARod like numbers. Or how about Tiger Marcus Thames, another former Yankee farmhand who has 21 Homers.

I can't fault the Yankees for picking up Abreu. He has one of the highest OBP in Major League Baseball, is a threat at stealing bases, and has a great arm in right field. The Red Sox were interested in getting Abreu but they didn't offer enough to the Phillies. If Trot Nixon had gone down during negotiations, the Sox miight have upped the ante.

As far as Jeter goes, if the Yankees win the AL East, he will get serious consideration for the AL MVP. He is the glue that held this team together during all of the Yankees injuries. But isn't that what a captain is supposed to do? (see Varitek)

nyyankyfan is on target. The other infantile comments are somewhat expected by the contributors. It will be a close race down the road with the Sox. All Yankee haters relish in a fantasy that the Yanks have only bought the players on their team. Cano is back, and contributing along with the rest of the home grown talent. They signed a few free agents, just like the Sox. The core is what will make the difference.

  • I walked in after not watching since the second inning to see Damon rip that 2 run shot. Sat there and watched the Yankees pull away while the Sox floundered.

You should just be lucky the Sox avoided being swept. Papi helped save the day again.
