How many times have you been screwed by Paypal?

I have learned to use my credit card for payments and always transfer paypal balances to my savings account prior to making a payment. I recently had a transaction for over $2000 and had to file a claim. Paypal was only able to recover a $1000, but I called my credit card company and received a credit. How many of you guys weren't quite so luckly? Paypal is a joke, at least from my experiences.

I filed one "item not as described" complaint and paypal got me my money back, I think it helped that the seller didn't try to hide from it. I also had one "item not received", the seller never answered up and I got nothing back.

Paypal is the best available system but there are so many cheaters and frauds and theives out there that no system is going to be perfect.

Anytime I purchase anything on Ebay I use my credit card just in case the deal goes bad.

  • I was screwed once back in 2003 for $1500.

But just last month I received a settlement check from them for $1450 as a result of the Paypal class-action lawsuit.

So I guess I was only screwed for $50 (plus interest)

Never here since I've never signed up for Paypal, and still have no desire to go for it. I know its probably a
good thing for certain things, but there are just too many bad stories out there about it. If people don't
want or can't wait for my US Postal Money Order then I guess they don't need my money. I'll just find the
    item somewhere else.

I just cannot see how anybody can be brave enough to use Paypal for presells. Say the item arrives 10 days after they pay, even if you send that day if they file with Paypal that they never recieved the item they will get their money back. Paypal rules say the item must be shipped within 7 days in order for the seller to have protection.

If you are just a buyer then Paypal is great, but if you are a seller you are using it at a great risk.

I bought a PSA 8 card and paid with Paypal. The seller sent me a beat up raw copy (claiming his cousin "wanted to keep the slab"), as if the card was an 8 to begin with. Paypal wouldn't help me, saying they didn't get involved in "disputes over condition". They ignored all further contact from me. When I filed a fraudulent seller report with ebay, he immediately refunded my money including the $3 shipping and asked that I send the card back. I put it in a plain white envelope unsleeved, though I should've said I require $3 for shipping. I still feel a little burn that I spent 37 cents plus an envelope on that jerk, and Paypal was worthless for me.

I've had small items before where PayPal wasn't able to recover any money for me (I think the most was $5 or so).

I had an annoying situation recently where PayPal held onto my money for far longer than they should.

I got a couple great buys from a seller who misspelled Goudey in the auction title, and PayPaled him right away. About a month later (July 4), I file a PayPal claim, because I didn't get them and he didn't respond to 2 emails. He didn't respond to the claim, and on July 14, PayPal took it under review. They granted the claim on July 26 (don't ask me what takes 12 days to rule on a non-response), and informed me that I would be receiving a refund within 5 business days. It took 9 more business days (August 8) before they refunded my money. Interest wouldn't have been much on my money, but keep enough people's money for a month and it adds up.

According to this site you waive your rights to credit card protection (charge backs) if you use paypal, under their TOS.
I've never had a problem with paypal, so far. And the interest rate they pay beats just about anyone else's for this type of savings.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • You do not waive your rights to claim through your CC company. The only thing Paypal will do is suspend your account, but they will usually only do that if you go to your CC company before trying to fix the situation through Paypal.

According to paypals terms you cannot file a lawsuit against them either should they do something.

More proof that just because something is in their TOS doesn't mean it's enforceable or legal.
