Advice on selling cases

I have recently bought several cases of unopened wax boxes and rack pack boxes. The bad news is that they are from 1987 to 1991. The good news is that I got them for about half of what they are bringing on Ebay. I do plan on selling most. There were 12 cases in all with many sets and other wax boxes including 83, 84, and 85 Topps unopened wax boxes (1 each). These were from a very reputable 72 year old man. He had them put away since the early 90's when he lost interest.

I need some advice on selling. Have any of you sold cases? Who did you use to ship? How much do I charge for shipping a 20ct box case? Some examples would be nice. Do I need to wrap/cover up the case?

Any advice would be needed.

  • You should always double box the cases for shipping!! 1st for security....2nd for safety to the product...or vice versa depending on how you look at it...lol

Depending on where you're shipping to...I always use UPS (another reason to box for saftey!!)....and with vending and wax cases dependin g on which coast you live and how far the product has to go...shipping has been as low as $18..and as high as $40.

My general rule of thumb is that I pack my goods the way that I'd expect to receive them if "I" were buying them myself!!

As for the cases of late 80's and early 90's...sometimes the shipping can kill what you'll get for the selling price. !/2 the cases back then are $75-$150 each..and if you have to charge $40 to ship it..that will come off the selling price.

BEST bet...try to sell them as a lot locally. Or if you do send to Ebay...tell the buyers that they will have to pay exact postage to their home. (that can hurt..especially if you have to go out and buy boxes to ship the cases in).

I work at a place where I can get boxes for free that the cases would fit in perfectly. Before I bought the cases, I checked the Ebay completed items, and I gave around 60% to 70% of the LOW range of Ebay final price. The Ebay selling price DOES NOT included shipping, so therefore, I think I'm ok on that.

I just didn't know about the double boxing. Did the card companies double box back then, or did they just send as is?

Thanks for the advice. Any more?
