3 Silver Eagles - 1 to Stay, 2 to go...help me out

This site has been wonderful, enabling to lean on your experience as I start collecting again. I have another question

This is the story of the 3 1993 Silver Eagle proofs. I want to keep at least one, perhaps two. I have examined all three and the one that seems to have the most tarnish around the rim of the coin is by far and away the best - cleanest, deepest strike.

The other two coins...one has a little tarnish and 1 ding under magnification and the last one I can see 2-3 dings and no tarnish.

My ultimate goal is to assemble a super high quality set (PF70 & PF69) of graded/slabbed proofs. When I submit a coin to a grading company, do they remove the tarnish pre-slab or not touch it?

What would you all recommend? As you know the 1993 is one of the more expensive dates currently. The other 1 or 2 coins I will sell.

No, you have to dip the coins yourself before submitting. Any tarnish will deduct from the coins grade because of the diminished eye appeal

So you pull em out of the mint hold and dip them in what?

Then put them back in the us mint holder and send them off?

Will this damage a proof coin? The strike on the tarnished one is clearly much deeper and superb. The difference in strike is surprising honestly.

I just want to create the best slabbed set I can. This one is going to be for my 2 year old. I figure I will give it to him around 12 or so and we can be in this hobby together.

My honest suggestion is that before you play around with dipping coins and with submitting coins, that you take some time to learn... I know that's a bit hard if you're impatient and wanting to jump right into it... but if you dive into a game without knowing the rules and how to play it, you're gonna get burned... take a little time to get more familar with the grading of coins and other such issues before you do anything with your coins...

I don't mind waiting. I am just wondering which of the three to keep for the long term. By knowing how dipping is done and the consequence of it, I am hoping that will make my decision quick.

The superior strike of the edge tarnished coin makes me want to keep it...but the tarnish is an eyesore. If it is easy to get rid of it...so that one day I slab this among others, then I think that is the coin to keep. I am just deciding which one to keep and hoping the expert coin collectors can make a suggestion to help guide me a bit.

I hope that makes sense . I am actually in no rush whatsoever to send in coins to get graded. I just can only afford so much and having 3 1993s is silly for me when I can now work on 1994s and can use that money more effectively.

Is the "tarnish" around the rims really bad looking or is it just normal toning? I am asking because, believe it or not, many people consider toned coins to be better looking than untoned ones. If you dip the coin to remove toning you might be reducing the value of it.

It is just around the rim and looks more like tarnish to me. The coin is still in the mint holder, so hard to tell
