Would this Rose cross to an 8?

Pretty nice Rose, but would it cross to a PSA 8? Opinions please...

I say it comes back either 8 OC, 7, or trimmed.

very nice card, but I don't think it is an 8
  • looks nice enough....BUT there's a goos sized gap top to bottom in that holder..

If it isn't trimmed...it still might comeback from PSA as "ungradable" minimum size requirement

either trimmed or a 7, if you get real lucky you will get an 8 but it would have to be cracked out and you would need to get real lucky.

    here is mine for reference.

It does look like a nice card, but I don't trust what's in a GAI holder to be unaltered. Maybe you get a PSA 7, but there's a chance it won't cross at all.

As someone who has familiarity in how GAI's half grades work, the card is likely not a PSA 8 due to centering. If Baker graded it, he probably felt it was a really nice card that with better centering, would be an 8. Thus the 7.5 grade. I think if cracked and resubmitted, the card comes back a PSA 7.

I do not think the card is trimmed at all. Does it measure correctly in the holder?

I agree with RonBurgundy 100%. I think it's probably a 7, and compared to packCollector's PSA 8, it seems appropriate. BTW, both are fantastic looking cards!

I've seen 8's with similar centering or similar corners, but the combination of the two keeps it at a 7 imo. I would leave it in its current holder or maybe try crossing it over to a SGC 86 since they sell better from what I've seen.

BTW, how many of GAI's cards are really graded by Mike Baker? Does he grade most of the higher end ones? I just ask because I've seen so many references to him grading GAI cards on these boards.

At the shows I've seen him at (nationals & Tri-Star) he has taken some of the more "prestigious" cards/submissions and graded them. Otherwise it seems like Danny Fisher or Sean Drinkwater take them. I don't know if Sean is still there though.

I've seen 8s with that kind of centering.

But, I'm not sure the corners fall in the 8 - the upper left has quite a bit of white showing?

There seems to be concern about size? Can't tell - without an exact measurement.

If you decide to send it in - good luck

    My guesses:

Centering might be borderline for 8, but sure 7.

Fairly serious AHs T/L and above the "R." In fact,
much of top blue looks like it is peppered with lesser
AHs. Probably no PD, but cumulative harm.

Some grief in the red circles. Mostly bright, but not totally
uniform shades of red. White spots.

Could be a partial wax-stain above the "R" in "RECORDS,"
on reverse. Possible dreaded ST, if grader of death looks
at it; but it should be ok for 7 on that issue.

Numerous PDs (or touches/scrapes?) in card number strip on reverse.

T/L corner looks distressed, in a semi-minor manner.

I guess it is a 7, but I would not be shocked if it went worse.

I would leave it where it is, or maybe go SGC because their
numbering system seems to have captured some interest
    among buyers. No idea why.

BGS/BVG is running specials. You might experiment there,
if the sale is still going on when you are ready.

PSA would be the ONLY "holder of choice," but you would
almost certainly have to crack it b4 you send it in.

If they are feeling liberal ala the infamous Griffey cards, you
might be OK, but do not let your heart stop when you see
either a PD or ST Q next to the 7.

It seems to have multiple very-minor/minor defects, that by
themselves, would not be bad, but their cumulative effect
    could hurt the number.

Card does not appear trimmed to me.

Eye appeal slightly below what hardcore guys would find
acceptable for an investment grade card.

If I was trying to steal it from somebody, I would call it a PSA 6.
If I was selling it, I would call it a "high-end" PSA 7.

Thanks guys. It is actually for sale on ebay (it's not mine - I was considering buying it for my 63 set), but I think I'll pass. My own thoughts were that it appears within 70/30 and that the corner touch is a 50-50 proposition for an 8. Nice card, but not nice enough.

I don;t know how much the card is selling for but here is one other point. someone said that they have seen 8's with similar centering , this is atrue and this card unlike many , people tend to buy the card and not the holder. WOW , what a conceptimage 8's with bad centering go for 1100 range (of course there are a few exceptions) 7's with nice centering might approach 800-850 so although there is some difference , the prices reflect the card more so than the holder for the most part

edited to add: at a $1000 it's not worth it , spend an extra 500-600 and get a nice 8 or but a nicely centered 7 for 800-850. too many risks to save yourself a 100-150 bucks
