I agree.....I just gave my good friend's son about 25,000 assorted cards that I had laying around(he is 6 years old).....My friend called me the next day to tell me how his son couldn't put them down. He also told me that his son wanted to write me a thank you card..lol.....It is a good feeling to see the excitement brought to a young collector over stuff we think is not worth our time.....hopefully this will be the start of a long collecting career....Chris
I love trying to bring newkids into the hobby... My girlfriend is a 1st grade teacher. I gave her a 3200 count box to use as a border for a bulletin board and as prizes for good work... Even though the cards were just commons, both the boys and girls were psyched when they got the cards... this year i told her i would give her some better named players such as jeter, arod, etc and then we will see what happens!!

It reminds me of my childhood in the late 80's. I'd be over at a friends house, and we'd go through '87 Topps cards like our lives depended on it. Very nice.
Does anyone remember the Wonder Years episode - it was called "Odd Man Out"
Kevin and Paul were sitting on his bed and arguing over a trade that just wasn't going well.
Paul kept saying - but I'm not sure of the card? I want to say it was McCovey - so he kept saying: "the McCovey is off the table." And of course that pissed Kevin off to no degree!
On the trivia side - the cards they were playing with were like 89Ts!
I guess they didn't want to trust the kids with late 60s cards?
Ahhh....the "wonder years?" I wonder how I survived? mike
Great pic. I remember back when I was a kid in 1989, one of my buddies would come over for the weekend, and we'd spend the whole weekend trading cards and talking baseball. He'd set up his stuff and proudly display his 1986 Donruss Jose Canseco, and I'd proudly display my 1987 Fleer Will Clark. We'd trade some cards, talk baseball, but would usually get into an argument over Giants and A's players. I was the Giants fan, he was the A's fan.
There was a 1987 Topps Mark McGwire card that we somehow managed to trade back and forth multiple times. I'm the one who ended up with it. I still have it too. Though it'd grade out at a PSA 6, there are some good memories behind that card. It was usually the "deal-sealer."
"Hmm, I dunno." "How about I throw in the McGwire rookie?" "Ok, deal!"
My mom has a photo from 69' when i was 8 years old flickin' cards with my best friend Ron against the garage door...Just kills me every time i see it!!!! Thank God i figured it out 3 years later
My first year of seriously collecting cards as a kid was 1966. For some stupid reason, I liked Richie Allen at that time I and traded a 66 Pete Rose for a 66 Allen to my older brother. I'll never forget that $hit eating grin he had on his face after the deal was done.

<< <i>Mike - what are those things on the bed next to the kid's hand (the one on the top left)? Those aren't adding machines are they? >>
Mark
Do you mean the kid on the left reaching out with a card...
His right hand?
If so - it's a file box - I believe.
Or are you pulling my leg?
Now what is conspicuously missing?
A Beckett, toploaders, PSA graded cards and Registry notes.

OMG, I remember those. I put stickers all over mine, too.
