New psa pack grading scale

Saw the new grading scale for PSA pack grading and noticed that if the top card on a cello pack is not centered, the best grade it could get is a 7. I thought that the idea was to be grading the pack....and its seal or condition....not the top card of a pack. It almost sounds like we are grading cards now.

I think the centering should be salient - I mean, one of the biggest factors of a cello pack is seeing what's inside. And if what is inside looks like absolute crap [because it is miscut], the cello pack won't have much value. I don't know if 7 is the right cut-off or not, but I do think it is a factor that should be considered.

I think its a crap shoot anyway. The next card could be a blazer. I dont mind if they look at the sides and corner of the packand try to grade it that way. Let the buyer set a price if they are looking for that perfect pack and the rest of us are just happy that we have a pack to the collection.

    Centering looks crappy:

It sounds like, based upon what you are saying, that you have carved yourself a great opportunity. You can buy PSA-graded packs that grade out at 6-7 solely because of centering, and get them for cheaper than those who want higher-graded packs-

  • If all you want is to add a particular pack to your collection and you're not concerned with the centering or condition of the top card than you're going to make out great because the packs you are looking for will get a lower grade and will be cheaper for you to obtain in the open market.
  • UH-OH!! I am in trouble then.I love to collect 75 rack packs. And I think all but one of my racks has a machine mark on one of the top cards. As a matter in fact ,I would say about 85% of the 75 racks that I have seen have machine marks.I guess that 1975 was a big year for drugs and most of the people working for Topps were on them.
