Man buys gold coins on Ebay, gets rocks instead

Salina anesthesiologist Mark Snyder thought he had purchased eight South African Krugerrand gold coins through eBay, but when he opened the package shipped to his home Tuesday he found it contained only rocks, Saline County Undersheriff Dave Dunstan said.

Snyder told officers he bought the coins through a man in Federal Way, Wash., and that his payment of $5,077 was made through PayPal, a company that handles money transactions for Internet purchases.

Dunstan said a sheriff's investigator has been assigned to the case.

Shipping error? Maybe some guy in White Center, WA is staring at 8 gold coins, expecting to see rocks?

Not funny at all... not one damn bit.

Someone needs to go to jail for this.

If this wasn't some sort of sick mistake of course someone should go to jail! Over $5K is at least grand theft not to mention mail fraud.

    Sad and funny.

Hard to prove the rocks were shipped instead of coins & not switched in by the purchaser?

The accusation could be made and the seller might have to identify the source of the coins and perhaps prove he possessed them. This is the sort of thing eBay was asking of sellers and NARUing when they refused to provide, right?

I wonder what service/vendor was used to ship the package? Be nice to know that info. Bad deal all the way around.
