Topps Allen and Ginter

Bought two boxes of this stuff today and looking to put together a set of the mini cards. ( I think it looks great) I did pretty well pulling a black mini Ted Williams, a Priting Plate card of an A's pitcher (sorry I don't have it in front of me right now) a bazooka back numbered to 25 and a bunch of other great things! A nice set...

Way to go Topps!

  • Anyone know if Target/WalMart etc will carry the Allen and Ginter cards or will distribution be limited? They look pretty sweet
  • Wal-mart has already sold out of them here locally.

This is going to be my major project for the year. I was thinking of doing a super-master set:
    base set w/SPs
    mini set
    black mini set
    autographs
    relics
    Perez insert set
    N43 set
    postcard set
and the Grady Sizemore and Frank Thomas complete parallel sets (if you see the Bazookas, woods or plates, LMK)

The rip cards are going to be tough, and the extended mini cards (only available in the rip cards) are going to be chased heavily, along with the autos.

I think that may be a bit much to go for all at once, so I'm holding off on the minis. I've got two hobby boxes coming but they can't get here soon enough. I've been haunting the Wal-marts since last week when they first leaked out, but around here they all have terrible card sections and no one's gotten any. I've already spent over $150 on singles on ebay but I have none in hand yet. It's killing me.

2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

    Nothing on ebay

I sold my left nut and got three boxes. Im sure glad I did. I nailed a Pujols rip it card numbered to 99. Its on the bay right now for the
high end buyers. Im only 20 cards or so from a set. The mini set will be very hard to do as will the black mini. Coallation was very good
in my three boxes. If anyone wants to trade lets get it on. My GU were:

    Kuo
    Pujols
    Utley
    Dye
    Schilling
    Prior
    Willis

Im going to tell you all this once. This stuff is going to HOT HOT HOT. If you think you might want to buy some BUY IT NOW, before you
local card guy can jack this stuff up!

Just listed a Hulkster Auto and picked up 142 minis (including many sp's ) from the local shop for a smooth $100 bucks. Thought is was a good deal.. Just base minis no black or A& G backs.

Be patient on this stuff. I pulled the trigger on a master set for $250 because of the hype. I now see master sets as low as $169, including the Perez 30-card set. The short prints are apparently very easy to pull (I've seen reports of 2:3). The real challenge will be the black mini set, the /25 Bazooka minis (I picked up Nomar for just over $3 - nice!), and the no-number minis. The autos seem to be doing pretty well right now - some Mike Tysons are up and going quite high, ARods are up there, Hulk Hogan, Wendy Guey (spelling bee champ), Kobayashi and many others are strong. I'm not a big fan of the tropical borders on either the autos or the game-used - not sure why Topps chose that motif. Is there a tropical theme in the original A&G?

Is there any way to tell what is inside one of the Rip-It cards?
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

<< <i>Is there any way to tell what is inside one of the Rip-It cards? >>

not that I've seen. Looks like every time a /99 has been ripped, it has yielded one of the high number minis (351-375) that are only available in the rip cards. I'd think the lower the number on the rip, the better card you'll end up getting. The buybacks that are only available in the rip cards all seem to be birds, at least that's what has been pulled so far.

  • I love this stuff better than Heritage!!! Is there an SP list yet? Sharp cards, love the backs, and I actually like that the GU/AUTO stuff is in mini with the border card. Looks fantastic!!! Can they make this an annual set?!?!?!?!?!?! I hope so.

  • Remember with Heritage some boxes had a very high ratio of SPs while some were almost non existant. I have opened 3 retail blasters and the first one had 4 SPs the second had one and the third every pack had one. Got my girl Danica in one.

Nice Best offer price on that Pujols, Kevin.
  • Where do you get this stuff? Wal-Mart, Target, card shops?

    Thank you for the information,

I bought three boxes and pulled the Pujols rip card and got a nice amount of money for it. I still have all the mini, which Im about to deal
to a member here. I have the black mini's, no #, and A&G backs left plus 7 jersey cards. If anyone is interested send me a PM.

The rip cards are really nice and I tried like heck to figure out what was inside, but no such luck. I could tell that the edges on the card
inside were perfect, so I assumed it wasn't an original card. I have seen NO red ink autos, so I assume that the parallel cards dominate
the inside cards. I also have seen that most of the original cards are not of baseball players but of the birds OUCH.

None the less this is a great product, but I think Im going to get my base set and get out. I have plenty to trade with some short prints

    Thanks

anyone know what that might be worth? and is there a checklist or sp list? thanks in advance!

Seems like printing plates are so common anymore that they don't command much of a premium - the exceptions are for the superstars, but even they don't seem to go for much.

Whoever is going after a set, try to get the no number cards fast---someone on the beckett boards looked at the odds and found that only about 50 of each card had been printed.

Also, if anyone pulls any Gomes autos or jerseys, please email me (in sig). Trying to get as many of these as possible.

yes the mini parallel sets are going to be hard to put together. I pulled the wiener eating guy in the no number variation and didn't
even know it. The short prints carry over to all the mini cards, with the black short printed cards being the hardest to pull. Master
set builders will have their hands full with this one. Boxes are on the up too price wise. Get in now if you can. Most case busters are
    reporting getting their money back!!

The sp list is on beckett. Mostly centered around the number 5 for some reason.

I saw that Wright red auto but so far that is it!!!

Look at the picture in that auction . . . do you see a difference whatsoever between the Mickey Mantle jersey, who, obviously retired in the 60s, and the Arod Jersey?

  • Hello there,

Can anyone help? I just bought my first cards from this set. It was a blaster box from Target. I pulled an Andy Pettitte jersey and mini Black Border #181 Larry Bigbie. I also got this card that says it is "Rip Card". It says I can keep it intact or rip it. What should I do and are these hard to pull? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Mark

I told myself I wasn't going to buy any more retail boxes and was even debating with myself as I was heading to the local card shop, but
I did and got a Bonds 18/25 Rip card, a Chien-Ming Wang jersey, a Cano signature and 4 black minis. I kind of want to shake the shop owner's hand for the box he sold me.

I have a post over on the trade board for the other GU's and Signatures, but I may send them to the Bay soon.

I've said it in my intro post (once again, on the Trade board), but the above is gravy because I think the set, especially the minis, are really beautiful cards. Even my wife said "wow, those really are attractive cards". Now that's saying something.
