Wagner update--Co-Owner responds

The guy responded on Vintage Baseball cards. This should get very interesting. He has been trying to sell this fake on ebay for years and every time eBay took it down. Why is it taking so long this time? Maybe it's time for the media to find out about this fake. Anybody have any connections to the media? Damn I hope so!!!

Have you guys being keeping up with the news on big companies and PSA lawsuit on forgery signature. Check it out for your self and you guys have so much faith in PSA and other grading companies. The cards is as fake as his so called experts.
None of them know a thing about baseball cards, but they are experts.
The real experts are the people who know T206's and not one person has any doubt that it's fake, fake, fake.
The seller playing the race card makes me sick to my stomach.
This whole thing is going to leave a black eye for our hobby if it sells to
    some un informed moron.
I know it won't sell, but you never know.
Biggest thing is why doesn't ebay pull it.
They have pulled every ungraded Wagner for the last 4 or 5 years.
Why is this so different? Just my 2 cents.

I can live with the fact that he is trying to pawn off a piece of crap as real.

And I do have a very healthy appreciation for science and technology.

Perhaps he can use the "Big Bang Theory" to validate the "origin" of this card?

But, I sure hope my existence is predicated on more than "his science?"

I posted this on the net54 board - his first post was a novelty - his second is just plain stupidity.
I have a lot of patience with dumbasses - but this one may have plucked my last nerve!

The day that card makes it's way into a PSA holder is the day that eBay will be crushed with graded card listings, as every collector here and elswhere dumps every single PSA card they own.

I'm issuing a press release Wednesday on behalf of my web site SportsCollectorsDaily.com explaining why having this card submitted for authentication and grading is the ONLY route to take. Hopefully some media outlets will pick up the story. You can locate it via PRWeb.com.
  • schr1stschr1st Posts: 1,677 ✭✭
Here is what I'm hoping happens in this situation: the auction continues to run, and is sold to one of the casino or on-line gambling IDs. Then these 2 guys are going to have to explain to some rather scary people why the card they bought for over $300,000 (for the publicity of it) is being rejected by every grading company in the world. Karma does work in mysterious ways.

If they were smart, they would have taken the $10k when it was offered to them.

On another note, I wonder how accurate paper dating is? Can they accurately authenticate my 1990s commons? image
  • He could end the controversy just by having it graded or at least a letter from PSA stating it is real.
  • schr1stschr1st Posts: 1,677 ✭✭
But that's the problem. It's most likely not real, and then they wouldn't have that plausible explanation that "they want to be in the room with the card when it is graded".

You know of a larger source of vintage collectors?

How much of an expert do you need to be to know this is fake?

If you had a vintage card and had questions about it, would you

    not trust the collectors there?

I guess that makes them experts.

  • Those Net54 guys ARE the experts. No joke. But one thing that is a joke is whoever is posting as the owner of the fake Wagner...no way it's one of the real owners, its gotta be somebody just havin' fun with that board. After all, the real owners of the card couldn't possibly be that stupid.

    Could they?
  • Brian48Brian48 Posts: 2,624 ✭✭✭
They may very well be that stupid. In reading the article, their main concern about about sending the card in for grading is that they will temporarily lose sight of it and they don't trust PSA/SGC. What he/they don't seem to understand is that the very target audience whom they're trying to sell this card to does happen to trust PSA, SGC, etc.. Given the publicity that has surrounded this card, I really doubt a public company like PSA would screw a customer over like this when the very premise of their business is based on integrity. If the card is legit, then all this can simply be resolved by just sending it for authentication. Given that he has not done so, I firmly believe that he has doubts himself that this card is authentic.

The card isn't authentic, and the whole thing seems pretty comical to me. That card should just get ripped in 10 pieces and thrown in the garbage, and that should be the end of it. What a waste of everyones time and (their) money.

Well, then again, if someone is stupid enough to plunk down $300K for this despite lack of authentication, I suppose he got what was coming. Not being a collector of the T206's, I didn't realize the glaring differences between this card and the originals.

    Carew,
I realize it was meant as a silly post... But I need to reiterate; Those VBC guys have devoted countless hours researching the origination, and provenance of some amazing, classic sets. What may appear as arrogance to visitor is often times weariness at the repetitive and frequent pop-in requests of,' "Is this card worth, blah blah?" or "I got these at a tag sale. Are these real?"

They take pride in knowing all the hundreds of nuances and variations and have unselfishly advised many vintage _students_, undoubtably saving many from certain heartbreak. I for one have benefitted from their extensive research, in knowledge and more importantly in cash savings.

These honorable collectors are at the top of the game and are a priceless resource in this leach-infested hobby. Stop by, run a search and you'll discover, it ain't your run of the mill Geek Squad.

    Pardon the lengthy rant.

*As for this Honus, I'd love to have it!
