Guess the Grade - 1877 Seated Liberty Quarter

Just bought this one (seller's photos). I'm pretty excited about it. It'll represent this series in my 7070. Grade estimations and certainly opinions on originality are warmly welcomed.

I really can't give you an opinion that I have any confidence in based on these images. There looks to be wear on the head, but I really can't tell.

Somewhere between high grade AU and MS60+ (edited to add: and dipped), but there is absolutely no way to tell from those images.

    Nice coin Mark.
I don't know what this 7070 business is, but if you keep buying nice looking seated quarters you'll do well.

Thanks Ray. Its a Dansco 7070 (United States Type) Album. This one is raw. I've cracked out about 15 so far from TPG holders. I do like this Seated type. One of the reasons for doing the 7070 is to explore up close what series turn me on sufficiently to collect by date.

Lovely wife. I have a school picture of my wife, aged 10, it embarasses her terribly when I show it to dinner guests after a couple martinis. image

Probably unc but once cleaned/dipped. Again, hard to say from the reflection in the photos. Really depends on the amount of luster visible in the fields. Nothing obvious in the way of wear.

I agree here. I'll venture to say AU55.

Looks like an AU55 or AU58. It's hard to tell from the pics.

Should look nice in your 7070 album.

Looks dipped, but not too unsightly.

I think it's choice AU, and where I'd put it depends on the luster remaining. If you held a gun to my head and made me guess off the image....55.

I thought AU53. Though lately the services seems to reward dipping so maybe 55.

    AU55

Edited to add: I like it as a Dansco 7070 type coin.

  • I concur with the AU53-55 grading opinions posted above. IMO, definitely dipped based soley on the images however the coin in hand may reveal differently. I base my dipped opinion on the appearance of accumilated dirt/debris in the denticles at 3 o'clock on the obverse and at approximately 8 o'clock on the reverse. This appearance is also displayed in the last A in AMERICA and at certain spots in the motto. There appears to be the abscence of luster on the reverse between AMERICA and the eagles wing as well. My opinion of the coin displayed in the images is that it is very pleasing and a great AU example of the seated version of the quarter dollar. It is a great addition to your Dansco and congrats on the acquisition!
