I once received a psa slabbed card that was obviously tampered with. Now, I don't know if it is always obvious to tell when a slab is tampered with, but it sure should be. If it isn't, psa needs to tinker with their slabs and make them tamper proof. The last thing we need is a buyer who buys this card and then turns around and tries to sell it as authentic. Rich
I wanna know who would crack a 55 Bowman Mantle PSA 9...
He has an SGC holder with a "reprint" McGwire rc in it as well...that case is cracked all over, the psa case doesn't look all that bad, but it could be the scan.
<< <i>He says that the cards and holders are replicas. I would think PSA and SGC would be very interested in these auctions. James >>
What people say on E-bay sometimes is not the whole truth(understatement of the year), Anyway you can see that the SGC holder has been cracked open. The reason you can probably see it is that the black border of the SGC holder allows this to show up well. If a frosted over PSA holder was scanned against a white background, like these, they would be very difficult to see. I agree however that it is a very interesting auction, worthy of investigation by someone.
I just got off the phone with PSA and SGC. I just talked with a customer service rep at PSA but I talked with Scott Hileman, the vice president of SGC. This guy will be getting a couple nasty emails from both companies. The cert numbers on the PSA 9 slab is for a PSA 8 Dan Marino rookie card. The only good thing I can say about he auction it that the seller is honest about what he is selling. James

Great job calling PSA and SGC... As to the cert number on the PSA 9 slab, it looks to be 50064639, which does come back as a '55 Bowman Mantle PSA 9.

Great job of reporting to both parties. Garbage like this is not good for the hobby period, regarless of what slab affiliation you have.
JFK -- I don't want to seem like I'm harping on your eyesight , but the cert number on the PSA 1 is 31627946 -- which checks out for the Mantle card at PSA 1.

BigCrumbs! I made over $250 last year!
I don't understand the point of the PSA 1 when the fake card inside appears to be in mint condition.
The PSA 9 is downright scary. The cert number even checks out.
Hmmmm, This brings up a lot of questions?
