Don't ask me which is truth and which is rumor, I have no idea.
Carson Palmer has suffered no setbacks and is trying to start the opener at Kansas City on Sept. 10, eight months to the day after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery. -- Cincinnati Enquirer
Vince Young's training camp so far has been a mixed bag. Hardly a practice goes by without an amazing play. But hardly a practice goes by without an interception or mishandled snap. Veteran Billy Volek has taken roughly 60 percent of the reps, with Young getting around 30-35 percent. -- The Tennessean
The pace of negotiations between the Cardinals and the agent for quarterback Matt Leinart increased over the weekend, but that doesn't mean a deal is imminent. Leinart is unlikely to play in the team's preseason opener. -- Arizona Republic
Consider Bill Cowher gone after this season. The public perception of Cowher being a dedicated family guy is a correct one. Which means, if his wife and remaining daughter at home are taking up residence in North Carolina, Cowher won't be far behind. -- Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
The Jets' ballyhooed, four-way quarterback competition has turned into a real dud. Chad Pennington is blowing away the field. Pennington, who probably needs only to stay healthy in the preseason to secure the job, added to his lead yesterday with a crisp performance in the Jets' intrasquad scrimmage. -- New York Daily News
The Bears understand the importance of durability at every position on the field, including running back. That's why they haven't traded Thomas Jones despite rumors that he was on the block. -- Chicago Sun-Times
While Jeremy Shockey was back at practice yesterday, just six days after suffering what the team called a 'mild concussion,' the Giants still are being cautious with their woozy tight end. -- New York Daily News
Roger Goodell, the NFL's chief operating officer, remains the overwhelming favorite to leave Chicago as the successor to Paul Tagliabue. It would be surprising if the owners spend very long deciding on their pick. -- New York Times
Interest in Ashley Lelie reportedly is heating up. Among teams that have shown interest are Baltimore, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco and Atlanta. -- Denver Post
Before the NFL Draft last April, Jets running back Curtis Martin, his surgically-repaired right knee still bothering him, met with the Jets and told them they should strongly consider selecting a running back high in the draft because of his concern about his ability to play this season, a team official told The Star-Ledger yesterday. -- Newark Star-Ledger
There are no signs the Packers will sign Paul Edinger immediately, even though the two kickers trying to replace departed free agent Ryan Longwell had shaky performances in the team's intrasquad scrimmage Saturday night. -- PackersNews.com
Adam Vinatieri will kick off for the Colts. That it's an issue at all is a direct result of how the team, and Mike Vanderjagt, handled it the past two seasons. Dissatisfied with Vanderjagt's kickoffs, the Colts continually scoured the nation for a better option. The ongoing search irritated Vanderjagt, and he said so. -- Indianapolis Star
Browns receiver Braylon Edwards said the opener Sept. 10 against New Orleans still is a possibility. He participated in team drills -- and worked against the defense -- for the first time since returning to action nine days ago. -- Cleveland Plain Dealer
From the start, new Kansas City coach Herm Edwards loved Dante Hall. In a late-spring workout, Edwards said he'd fully utilize Hall as a receiver. He wants to design plays to get Hall in space because he's so hard to tackle. -- Kansas City Star
The battle for the Vikings' strong safety job might be Dwight Smith's after Tank Williams was carted off the field after injuring his knee in practice. -- Minneapolis Star Tribune
Giants RB Derrick Ward suffered a broken foot between practices in an undisclosed off-field accident, a blow to the backfield depth. Ward was projected for more time as Tiki Barber's backup but might miss the rest of preseason. -- Newsday
Linebacker LaVar Arrington sat out both of yesterday's practices, but don't be alarmed. At least that's what he said. After spending much of the morning practice with a large wrap on his right knee, Arrington said soreness in "a couple of areas" was the reason he was out. -- Newsday

<< <i>What is the scuttlebutt on Alex Smith in 49er Country and Aaron Rodgers in Packer country. Are either of them going to be any good? Will Smith be the starting QB and play well? Will Rodgers see any action as Farve's backup? >>
Rogers needs the playing time. Favre's days playing football are coming to an end in the not too distant future. Life without Favre
will be a reality for the Packers at some point and they need to face that reality.
Can I expect him to be a dominant runner like last year?
