While it may be a 92-S, it looks dipped out and AU-ish.

THE MINTMARK MIGHT HAVE BEEN APPLIED. IT IS NOT CERTIFIED JUST MADE TO LOOK SO!

That rim on the left side of the obverse looks bad. A cast counterfit maybe? Something just isnt right.

Cleaned and/or dipped out EF/AU. Still a very good buy for $65 IF it's authentic. But I can't help but think the mintmark may be added.

    "MS-65"? BWAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAA!

As I look at it more, the '92' digits look bad.

Is this one of the Coinworld Do it Yourselfers?

It doesn't appear to be a Coin World holder, but it might be another type of non-sealed holder.

I'm not sure if this is a cast counterfeit, an altered date, an added mintmark, or some combination of the three.

it seemed fugazy to me too...the mintmark looked like it was made by the "Playdoe Funhouse Factory".

well at least the seller wasnt flagrant, and only charged $65.....he/she could've gambled for much more than that image

This looks like the date was "created". I can't tell what from, but it just looks "wrong" in comparison. The mintmark also looks wrong, and the rim on the coin looks more like a "P" mintmark rim. Off brand holder, a seller not recently active, gem grade for a polished AU - gee, what's not to like image

Not the cherrypick of the hour much less the decade.

  • I don't know

Could one possibility be an altered date 1882-S? The left obverse rim looks damaged, and the grade is a joke.
    When in doubt, don't.

He charges $20 for shipping also. I don't know, the obverse looks pretty weak on the coin, while the reverse looks to have bold breast feathers on eagle- maybe not the same coin?

I'm sure it must be exactly as represented. It's common on eBay for six figure coins to be available for $65.

Date looks funny. It's not an altered 1882, because the date is in the far position, which didn't happen in 82. For $20 shipping, it better be coming from far away, like China.

Well, the coin probably did, once upon a time.

Look at the 1892 cc he's selling, added mintmark, and the 1888 s, added mint mark.

    (or just plain old fake)

I believe that coin is a modern Chinese fake, through-and-through.
