Yay, two more fly-by-night grading services to add to the crap list.
  • You should see their website... www.nacgrading.com

Looks like some 12 year old put it together overnight.

    From www.nacgrading.com:

    NAC Grading Company

We generally grade coins from 1968 and newer and older US coins such as the Morgan and Peace Dollars.

We generally grade coins to our own standards and do not subscribed to any form or standard in coin grading; our grades are designed by us and are not to be confused to mean the same as any other grading company. It is important to know that coin grading is not a science. At best coin grading is an option issued by a coin grader or coin grading company. We make no guarantee as to the quality of the coin graded or the condition of the coin graded.

NAC shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, consequential, special, incidental, exemplary or punitive damages, including but not limited to lost profits, resulting from the use of the NAC website or any NAC product or service, except as expressly set forth in the NAC warranty information contained herein. This limitation may not be enforceable in some jurisdictions.

Limitation of Liability for Grading: All parties understand and agree that the opinion required in grading coins involves NAC’s subjective judgment. Consequently, NAC makes no warranty or representation and shall have no liability whatsoever to the customer for the grade assigned by NAC to any coin.

By your use of the NAC website you are expressly agreeing to the foregoing terms and conditions.

    More from the same site:

There is no license needed to become a coin grader. Any grades that are offered are strictly opinions. Most important is that you realize that ALL GRADING is a subjective opinion and can and WILL vary from person to person, and grading service to grading service, and, sometimes WITHIN a grading service as well.

You can submit the same coin to a grading service three times and three times get a different "opinion/grade". The ultimate decision on the grade of the coin is what YOU decide its worth to you, which is why you should buy the coin and not the grade. The ultimate decision on grade belongs to you. We offer only our subjective opinion and this option should not be used to determine the value of a coin.

We do not subscribed to any form or standard in coin grading; our grades are designed by us and are not to be confused to mean the same as any other grading company.

We make no guarantee as to the quality of the coin graded or the condition of the coin graded. We do guarantee the coin to be authentic and will stand by the grade for the authentication of the coin to be minted by the mint represented in the offering. However, that guarantee is a limited guarantee.

Limitation of Liability for Grading: All parties understand and agree that the opinion required in grading coins involves GEC’s subjective judgment. Consequently, GEC makes no warranty or representation and shall have no liability whatsoever to the customer for the grade assigned by GEC to any coin.

Any dispute under this Guarantee will be resolved by binding arbitration before a single arbitrator conducted at the home office of GEC, pursuant to the rules and regulations of the American Arbitration Association.
GEC SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOST PROFITS, RESULTING FROM THE USE OF THE GEC WEBSITE OR ANY GEC PRODUCT OR SERVICE, EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY SET FORTH IN THE GEC WARRANTY INFORMATION CONTAINED HEREIN. THIS LIMITATION MAY NOT BE ENFORCEABLE IN SOME JURISDICTIONS.

By your use of the GEC website you are expressly agreeing to the foregoing terms and conditions.

Limitation of Liability for Grading:All parties understand and agree that the professional opinion required in grading coins involves NNC’s subjective judgment. Consequently, National Numismatic Certification, LLC. makes no warranty or representation and shall have no liability whatsoever to the customer for the grade assigned by NNC to any coin.
CC-NGC does not use the Sheldon's numerical system for grading coins. Grading is the opinion of the grader and is not a since but rather simply an opinion. The numerical system used by CC-NGC is simply MS 65 – 70 for mint state coins and PR or PF 68-70 on proof coins.

MS PF PR 68 – 70 Are grades assigned to coins that are in very good condition and are in the same basic condition as when struck. Note: All coins may have marks and schratches on them through the minting process.

It looks to me like NAC and GAC are offshoots of NNC, or borrowed NNC's terms and conditions (note mix of NAC, GEC, and NNC terms above)....Mike

I've always wondered why somebody (ANA or some consortium of 'big boys') doesn't trademark/copyright/patent the Sheldon Scale. Then issue licenses only to those who abide by set guidelines. (I know there are those who will always have judgemental errors a point or two either way, I'm talking about the companies who put VF coins in an AU holder or the AU coins in MS70 slabs.)

Anybody know if this has ever been considered or if it's even feasible?

    Looks all good to me.
  • And here we have GEC, which turns out to be the same company.

    In that listing it reads:

<< <i>GEC PROOF COINS ARE GREAT FOR COLLECTING EVERY COIN FROM EVERY PROOF SET EVER MADE WILL BE LISTED SO BE SURE TO CHECK BACK OFTEN >>

    Wow, I'm impressed.

Up until now, I thought I had a complete set of Proof Kennedy halves; now I gotta buy a 1964-S!

Thanks Russ, they are both new to me and I haven't seen that shell design before either. Two more fly-by-nights for the third edition.
