Need a grade opinion on this cartwheel 2d.

I may have jumped the gun on it, but it's one of the nicer ones I've seen.

It's being sold as an UNC, and I think I agree. Color looks very original to me. A few minor rim bruises, but nothing near what I've seen on a lot of these. No wear that I can spot on the obverse. Looks like there might be some wear on the Britania's head on the reverse, or it might be weakness of strike.

Opinions?

Nice AU, in my opinion. Looks (from those pics) like a bit of rub on the reverse high points.

The rims are quite nice on that one! Cabinet wear perhaps?

I like it... could go 61 by US standards and likely GEF by British standards

gEF, but due to the minor edge bumps net EF.

Refresh my memory... gEF on the British scale = AU55-MS62 on the U.S. scale?

I posted this on another board, but it's hard to figure out what is an "appropriate" price for such a piece. Between Krause, Spink, Ebay results, traditional auction results, UK dealer prices, and the different grading scales, it's a b*tch.

Prices for U.S. EF seem to be 75-150 pounds. Most prices I've found for British EF from UK sources seem to range from 200-350 pounds.

I would call it AU55 to AU58 on the American scale, depending, as you said, on whether that is wear or a soft strike on Britannia's head. It's a handsome coin.
