The Southern Gold Society's Midwestern-Western Regional Meeting Report

The Midwestern-Western Regional branch of the Southern Gold Society had a meeting on Saturday August 5, 2006, in Redondo Beach, CA. In attendance were, you guessed it, Reece and myself. At the meeting, which, much to the surprise of the attendees and their families, lasted approximately two-and-one-half hours, there was an extensive show-and-tell session, with Reece providing almost all of the coins to show. I did bring one coin with me to LA, my 1861-O $20, on a trip that was ostensibly for a family wedding, but my diabolic mind was able to turn it into a coin trip, too.
I was fortunate to get to see all of Reece's NO half eagles and hear the stories of their acquisistions. Often, in the case of coins of this caliber, the story rivals the coin! The coins were phenomenal, many were finest known, and I was glad to have the opportunity to have this private viewing. A good time was had by all!
